Hello,

I see that the update is available to install OTA. Is there any advantage to installing it at home vs the dealer other then convenience?

Why wouldn't you want to do it at home instead of making a dealer appointment? Just click on install and do it.

What about stale donuts and burned coffee? You don't get at home, do you?

Some people say the OTAs don't update all the modules and that only the dealer or Forscan can do that. Can someone validate that for me? I haven't been to a dealer since buying my MME and that's a huge plus, in my book.

That is correct, but a dealer will not update all the modules in the vehicle for you. Only the ones related to a TSB with an issue or a recall. So if you bring it in for the recall updates the same six modules are updated as the OTA, nothing more. Therefore there's no benefit unless you are asking for additional updates and the dealer is agreeing to doing them (many dealers will refuse extra updates or will make you schedule another time for them).

If you want absolutely everything in the car updated you will have to resort to doing it yourself or have someone so-equipped like myself do updates for you (I service MSP area BTW).

So the OTAs sometimes update modules? How out of date are the modules likely to be for me if I have a 2021 job 2 and haven't been to a dealer since I bought my MME in January? What benefits might I gain from a manual update?

The OTAs are always updating some modules, but not all. There are 45 modules in the Mach-E and most are updatable. Manual updates can fix minor bugs such as PAAK not working, phone charging, HVAC performance, etc. If you want to know which updates you have available you can post your VIN here and Mike G will tell you: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...are-willing-to-look-up-info-for-others.10230/

To address the OP, the advantage to booking time with the dealer was to get it faster than waiting for the OTA to finally show up (they didn't roll out instantly to everyone). If the update is pending there's no reason to go in.

I don't know if one is any better than the other but this is what happened on our 22. I made appointment to have dealership do the recall cause we hadn't received the update until the night before our appointment so I called the dealership first thing in the morning to cancel the appointment and they looked up our vin and it showed that there was still needed the 22S41 update even though the car showed it had updated so I kept the appointment and sure enough the tech hooked up to the Mach e and it showed it still needed the update so I am glad I didn't cancel my appointment so now it's update to date.
