why do you care if it slows down, as long as it is done by morning?
Overheating electrical components concerns me, especially given that the summer has not been really hot here to date. At worst, call it a personal choice.

at least the charger handles it's own current limiting gracefully, and recovers..... Much better than the dang HVBJB (overheating contactor failing)

We typically only charge when the car gets down to ~50% and it has been erroring out before finishing lately now that it's hotter outside. Normally, that would take ~6-7 hours to get to 90% but it overheats after ~3 hours and completely stops after ~4 hours. I'm planning to take the charger to the dealer to hopefully get replaced under warranty but they want an appointment and claim they will probably need a Ford engineer to help troubleshoot. I'm not even sure they have a 240v connection to be honest.

EDIT: we have two 240v outlets in our garage and the Ford charger overheats on both. Our Tesla has no problems on either outlet when using the Tesla mobile charger.
Have the same issue, amber light comes and goes. My charge rate is about 12 miles/hour. I live in Tampa, and the inside temp of the garage is about 85-88. I have set the timer to charge between 8 PM - 7 AM (work dependent). But 11 hours at 12 miles/hr is 132 miles. So long trips need advance planning.

I took my charger to another friend's house with a Nema plug outside, and it faulted immediately.

Thinking about getting a Charge Point Unit, but I need to find an electrician. Anybody has a recommendation in the Tampa, Riverview area.

I live in AZ. My garage is over 100 on most summer days and the Ford charger yellowed out and extended charge times by hours. Went with the GrizzlE. No issues at all,

Has anyone tried blowing a fan against the Ford unit while charging?

good to know IF they have better internal cooling.... worriesome if they just are ignoring it.

if you put your hand on the charger after a couple hours charging, how hot is it?

It's hot, the cable is hot but it is over 100. I have been using it weekly since April and check on it before and after each charge. So far so good. It charges at nearly 10KW. That is alot of power. Equivalent to 4 five ton A/C units running flat out.

I live in Texas and our garage is hot in the summer but I haven't had issues with EVSE over heating.
I am having issues with the device not working correctly mounted in it's normal operating location.
I have documented my issues here https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...e-only-works-under-stress-should-i-use.20738/
I agree that the provided product isn't very robust but it was been provided by Ford and should work under most customers situations.
I have been paying more attention lately since I am having issues and once I have the budget I will be purchasing a more robust EVSE to use on a daily basis. This doesn't get Ford off the hook on these issues and they should make it easier to get a replacement. I just had my car at the dealer for the EVSE failure and received it back still broken. It's frustrating that we have to deal so much with the dealership and they don't have an easy ways to test and get replacements of failed hardware that can't be handled without a visit to service department.

Yes, 9-10kw is a lot of power, especially running for 4+hours continuous. They are not 100% efficient, so there is a fair amount of heat generated that has to go somewhere!

The charger will likely last longer if you can cool it a little bit. Even a plain box fan blowing on it will help. depending on your humidity, and 'swamp cooler' fan might help even more.

The charger inside the car cools itself off a bit with the fans.... but the external charger is likely to be quite hot.

Got my first charger error (amber + pulsing blue) due to the high temps. It was only about 101 outside around 5PM and there was some mild arcing in the pigtail connector contactors. Think it's time for a proper EVSE.

As far as ambient temps or how hot the charger is, my piece of crap shows overheat amber light after being plugged in for 6 minutes. 72 degrees in the garage between 9 pm and 8 am. Contacting the dealer tomorrow. Car is only 3 months old. Frustrating ughh

I have had my MME for almost 18 months now and have been using the Ford supplied mobile charger when I charge at home since day 1 using a 240V connection. Never had a problem with it. Works perfectly well. Will only charge the car by about 12 - 15% depending on ambient temperature during my cheaper rate tariff. The only issue I have is that my cheap rate is between 0030 - 0430 but the car will only let me charge by the hour so I am limited to 0100 - 0400. Still it was a lot cheaper then installing a wall box.
