Overheating electrical components concerns me, especially given that the summer has not been really hot here to date. At worst, call it a personal choice.why do you care if it slows down, as long as it is done by morning?
at least the charger handles it's own current limiting gracefully, and recovers..... Much better than the dang HVBJB (overheating contactor failing)Overheating electrical components concerns me, especially given that the summer has not been really hot here to date. Have the same issue, amber light comes and goes. My charge rate is about 12 miles/hour. I live in Tampa, and the inside temp of the garage is about 85-88. I have set the timer to charge between 8 PM - 7 AM (work dependent). But 11 hours at 12 miles/hr is 132 miles. So long trips need advance planning. We typically only charge when the car gets down to ~50% and it has been erroring out before finishing lately now that it's hotter outside. Normally, that would take ~6-7 hours to get to 90% but it overheats after ~3 hours and completely stops after ~4 hours. I'm planning to take the charger to the dealer to hopefully get replaced under warranty but they want an appointment and claim they will probably need a Ford engineer to help troubleshoot. I'm not even sure they have a 240v connection to be honest.
EDIT: we have two 240v outlets in our garage and the Ford charger overheats on both. Our Tesla has no problems on either outlet when using the Tesla mobile charger.
I live in AZ. My garage is over 100 on most summer days and the Ford charger yellowed out and extended charge times by hours. Went with the GrizzlE. I took my charger to another friend's house with a Nema plug outside, and it faulted immediately.
Thinking about getting a Charge Point Unit, but I need to find an electrician. Anybody has a recommendation in the Tampa, Riverview area.
good to know IF they have better internal cooling.... worriesome if they just are ignoring it.I live in AZ. My garage is over 100 on most summer days and the Ford charger yellowed out and extended charge times by hours. Went with the GrizzlE. No issues at all,
It's hot, the cable is hot but it is over 100. I have been using it weekly since April and check on it before and after each charge. So far so good. It charges at nearly 10KW. That is alot of power. Equivalent to 4 five ton A/C units running flat out.good to know IF they have better internal cooling.... worriesome if they just are ignoring it.
if you put your hand on the charger after a couple hours charging, how hot is it?
Yes, 9-10kw is a lot of power, especially running for 4+hours continuous. They are not 100% efficient, so there is a fair amount of heat generated that has to go somewhere! It's hot, the cable is hot but it is over 100.
