I have an in floor lift in my garage i pull in, crack my door open to look if I'm lined up and adjust accordingly. We'll not that easy in the MME as the parking brake automatically comes on.

I don't recall if this was the same last fall when I was swapping summer tires to winter but it definitely was a PIA when I last had it on the lift.

Am I missing something? Is there a setting?

That's always been the case, but you can just turn off the parking brake as soon as it comes on.

Don’t forget that the car will automatically shift to park when you open the door as well. So….Open door, then shift back to drive AMD turn parking brake off.

Seems quite easy to do, and a good safety feature considering

I haven't tried it on my Lightning yet, but on my ICE F-150, if you opened the door while in drive, with your seatbelt on, it wouldn't put the truck in park. Unbuckled, the shifter would immediately go to park.

Turn off 1PD then it works. You might have to turn off the parking brake once, but it should stay off.

Buckle seat belt and it'll stay in D when you open the door.

Nevermind, it doesn't work. Keeps applying the parking brake regardless.

Surprisingly no one has given you the correct answer. You can either open the door or you can take your seatbelt off but if you do both the vehicle will shift from D to P, this has been around for quite some time now.

Yes, but it keeps applying the parking brake again every time you stop in 1PD. If you disable 1PD then it won’t keep applying the brake so you can move the car with the door open and the belt off. I just did it on my car.

Funny, just ran into this today! Embarrassingly, I don't know where the parking brake switch is. That's because I haven't used it, so will have to look for it now.

I will need to try that one, honestly I have never tried to put in drive with the door open once it went into park on it's own. And, I do not have the 1PD enabled on mine.

Here is the information straight out of the owners manual explaining what happens;

AUTOMATIC RETURN TO PARK (P) What Is Automatic Return to Park (P) Your vehicle shifts into park (P) if you attempt to exit your vehicle without the transmission in park (P).
How Does Automatic Return to Park (P) Work Your vehicle shifts to park (P) when any of the following occur: • You switch the vehicle off. • You open the driver door with the driver seatbelt unfastened. • You unfasten the driver seatbelt with the driver door open. Note: Do not use Automatic Return to Park when your vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. See Powering Off (page 147). Automatic Return to Park (P) Limitations Automatic return to park may not work if the door ajar switch is malfunctioning. See an authorized dealer if any of the following occur: • Door ajar indicator does not illuminate with the driver door open. • Door ajar indicator illuminates with the driver door closed. • Transmission not in park message appears with the driver door closed, after you shift out of park (P)

A lot of modern vehicles these days actually do this.

Not telling anyone to do this but there's usually the button/sensor that detects the door is closed; just tape it down when you're doing this stuff and remove the tape afterwards.

Haven't checked on the MME. If it's close enough to you, you could even just hold it down with your finger. ?

When our Wrangler 4xe is in electric mode and the door is opened then the engine starts up. ???
Go figure.....
