Charge port cover for winter (magnets won't hold)

All,

As I approach my first winter with my Mach-E, I'm hoping to avoid the snow-filled charging port spaces I've had with my PHEVs. As the bumper around the MME's charging port is aluminum or some other non-ferrous metal, magnets won't hold. I found this on Amazon, which seems to attach via suction cups:

You do realize there’s a charge port door. Just like a fuel flap door on ICE vehicles.

Because when you're charging the car and it snows or sleets, the snow and ice can get into the port, clog up the hinge, and make the port door difficult or impossible to close, as in this photo from Electrek:

I didn't tend to leave my ICE gasoline filler port door open overnight in my driveway, but I do leave my charging port open when my MME is connected and charging. I don't have a garage. {Jonathan}

So glad I have a garage. I will say my concern, with no experience, is what would happen in a heavy wet snow which I believe you experience from time to time? My thought is it may separate under a heavy load and damage the door. Good luck. Many people here in Alaska without garages will put up one of those carport tents to at least keep snow, etc off of their cars.

I have a hair dryer in my garage for situations like this. But a cover may be a good idea if you're charging away from 120V outlets.

My experience with two winters now with the Mach-E and for three winters with a Chevy Bolt (which had an equally as flimsy charge door): not really necessary.

No issues with closing the door with snow everywhere.

Yes, I actually have one of those to remove stubborn ice from my sidewalk in winter ? (the top one, not the bottom one). I don't think I would use it on the Mach-E however...

I suppose I'll wait and see. I know that, with my two PHEVs, there were occasions where snow/ice got into the hinge space and made closing difficult or impossible.

Well, we just got through this eastern stupidity of a storm that ended with a mix of snow, rain, then sleet and back to snow. I can confirm that a cover is very much needed. Charge port hinge area was filled with ice and the arest of the charging area had about 1/4 inch of ice everywhere. I’m thankful I had a steam gun. Now to buy that suction cup cover….

So far I haven't had an issue through two winters with the Mach-E (and 3 winters with the Bolt: Its charge port door is as equally flimsy as the Mach-E's--and I had the Bolt parked outside for a good portion of that time on GM's advice so my house wouldn't burn down... ah yeah good times).

I've found if its caked up with snow/ice just brush it off. Since the door is plastic and not metal it doesn't get as cold and snow/ice doesn't stick to it like it would if its metal.
