Started looking for a set of winter tires for my GTPE and was curious what other's setup is. Was looking to just have the stock set of rims and mount/dismount the winter tires every year since it looks like steely rims for this car would be quite expensive due to the weight.

Just looking for recommendations / thought.

Thanks!

Good post because I was actually wondering the same thing. I see the MME GTPE I ordered this summer is scheduled for production but it comes stock with summer tires.

I was also wondering what is a good winter tire or all season to replace the stock summer tires. While I won't be doing a lot of winter driving it seems counter productive to be driving a vehicle equipped with summer tires in the winter.

I live in MD where we rarely get snow but often get days below 40° F, so I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s year-round. I don't need the extra performance of summer tires, nor the extra expense and storage space of a second set of wheels/tires. Been super happy with the Michelins so far.

I use the Continental Viking Contact 7 on mine. I was impressed with their performance in the snow last winter. They aren't great for dry performance but as long as I keep throttle to 70% or so they didn't slip too bad during acceleration. I got Fords kit of 4 gtpe wheels to make the swap easier.

Using the Michelin Cross Climate 2 all season, snow rated tires. This will be my first winter with the GTPE- I have a colleague how has them on his Lexus and highly recommend them/ he runs them all year.

Those Contact 7s have come up in research of mine, though since I don't *have* a GTPE yet, I have nothing useful to add.

I do have a (likely stupid) question: in additional to picking up a set of winter-only tires, which we all know aren't cheap, what's the logic in picking up a whole new set of wheels? Above you say, "to make the swap easier", but I don't know if the comment is to suggest you switch them yourself or...or you pay someone to do it, so the 2x year process is less expensive (which then has me wondering about the # of years/switch-outs required to make up for the cost of wheels).

Not picking on you...genuinely interested/clueless, as I've seen others go for the extra set of wheels. Also wasn't sure if there was some other factor, such as "these are perf wheels...not designed for harshness of winter/snow". Thx.

I went with the Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV on the GTPE wheels. I bought an additional set of GTPE wheels to mount them on, so the look won't change between seasons (I'm in Eastern Canada so a fair amount of snow)

Reasons, in no particular order:

1) Limits possible damage to OEM wheels removing and mounting tires on them twice per year.
2) Allows owner to change tires (assuming they can tighten to 150ftlbs) instead of having to go to shop.
3) Prevents snow, ice, salt, gravel, sand from damaging OEM wheels.
4) Allows those that like to spend thousands and thousands on their cars to spend more thousands.

Thanks...appreciate you jumping in on this.

I live in Northern Colorado and ran Pirelli Scorpion Winter XL on OEM wheels all last winter, and just swapped them back on. They were fantastic in the snow.

Lots of good choices. I have been running the Vredestein Wintrac Pro. If you don't want to switch winter and summer they make a Quatrac Pro that does have the winter rating on a all season tire. My other advice is watch the speed and load ratings the GT & GTPE should have at least a V speed rating and a 103 load rating. The premium should have a H speed rating and at least a 104 load rating. Many tires do not meet these criteria and should not be used.

Here are the tire rack results. The Wintrac beats the Michelin Alpine and x-ice

Thanks!

I was very happy w Vredestein Wintrac-Pro for winter, I put them on the Stock wheels. I usually swap them on when we get more than 4" snow and I head for the mountains. takes 10 minutes with floor jacks and air wrench.

Otherwise ...

and just got new Conti dws06+ A/S for rest or year... pretty good for an A/S. I put +1 width on Enkie TS-V wheel that are an inch wider and 6# lighter than stock per wheel.
