I got my 2022 Mach-e this week and was having problems with the 240v Ford Charging Station. I've had my 240v outlet ready for months (uses it's own electrical meter) when I tried to plug in the first charging station I got the response of blue light, red light then amber light and it wouldn't work. I read posts here and tested what I could but I eventually threw my hands up and brought the charging station back to the dealer for a replacement.

I got the replacement and had the very same error sequence. I figured that indicated something was wrong with the electrical plug or box but I was wrong.

The actual neutral INSIDE the 240v pigtail isn't connected from one end to another.

I'll be bringing the tester with me when I pick up the replacement's replacement.

Hardwired 240v EVSE generally do not use a neutral.

I am not sure if the neutral is supposed to be connected for the mobile EVSE.

Edited to add: Hardwiring an EVSE can be cheaper installation wise because one less conductor is needed vs using a 14-50R. The lack of needing a neutral is also why you can buy plug in EVSE that plug into a 6-50R.

I dug out my supplied Ford EVSE which I know works fine.

The neutral is not connected in my pigtail either.

I believe more force is necessary than expected to fully seat the pig tail.

Push harder and then even harder than that.

I just checked my 240V pigtail and it isn't connected either and my charger has worked fine.

I'm 6'1" 240 and I squeezed that thing like it was trying to abduct my kids. Dang it, I thought I had it.

^^ This - you can try the 110 adapter as well... these things plug in really hard or it's not seated.

The 110v adapter works fine. I guess I can try a clamp but I have physically pushed that pigtail until it is inside the charger by about 1mm.

If it is ending up with just the amber light on, the manual thinks the pigtail is probably not fully seated.

ENSURE THE CONNECTOR AND CONTROL BOX ARE PROPERLY CONNECTED. UNPLUG AND REPLUG IN THE CONNECTOR. IF THE MOBILE CHARGER IS WARM OR IN A HOT ENVIRONMENT, TRY CHARGING IN A COOLER AREA. TRY A DIFFERENT OUTLET. TRY A DIFFERENT CONNECTOR IF YOU HAVE ONE AVAILABLE. IF THE ERROR PERSISTS, CONTACT US
If it turns out to just not be seated, I don't think you are the first to have trouble getting it fully seated.

Here is the cycle of lights you should see:
Note: When first plugged into a wall outlet the AMBER, BLUE and RED indicators will blink once. Then the BLUE Indicator turns on, followed by a blink of the RED indicator. After, the BLUE indicator turns off then back on. This cycle will happen twice if a different connector is used from a previous charge.
I would try it with another outlet if possible. Could be your outlet.

Good luck.

My original EVSE that came with the car didn't work with 240V you had to stress it. I finally got a replacement after fighting with the dealership and Ford.
I would also plug that replacement into the Stealership's Outlet.. and test if it works
Make the dealership prove that it works in the service department. My dealer did NOT have a 240v outlet to test mine or the replacement unit. :(

Many people have pointed out that the Ford-branded EVSE is not good quality and have purchased other brands. I believe if Ford gives it to you it should work.

My saga is in this thread. https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-under-stress-should-i-use.20738/#post-489719

Good luck and keep up the fight with your dealer service department.

Dude, at first I thought you got the mobile charger cord to spit out fire....

Yes the neutral isn't connected, that's normal. The forth pin is used for the internal thermistor, measured to ground: #53

BTW the fix in that topic was a new outlet, he got a defective/counterfeit Hubbell one off Amazon that didn't work.

It was a bad outlet. Electrician replaced the 240v outlet and the Ford Charger works great. I'm guessing the one I returned would as well.

In summation: ignore my post <grin>
