My commute is around 15 minutes with 12 miles of highway. We've already had a few 20 degree F mornings. My car (2022 Premium) stayed warm. So as suggested, it sounds like something is definitely off in your car.

If it is instantly pushing out 15C air in below -30C that is pretty good and more than adequate. Not sure of the frosting problem how bad and what side of the glass. I just never remember a time I even needed to hit defrost (freezing rain?)

What power up are you on did you receive the 3.6's with the heating system upgrade like he did?

What was your fan speed? Did you leave it on auto? What temp did you set it up?

Yes I'm on 3.6.1.

More data from today's drive in. Weather was about 13c warmer, and cabin was noticeably warmer.
Odd data PID is the " coolant intake temp sensor".
Is the HVB coolant intake sensor directly from the coolant heater ?

Huge difference between 20F outside and -24F as he's talking though.

HVAC systems are often measured in their differential ability, i.e. how much they can raise or lower the temp of the air it's starting with. And they have their limits. Raising air from -24F to even a semi-comfortable 66F is a whopping 90F lift. That's a lot.

That's better. Sounds like maybe you've found it's limits.

How was it in the prior days and months, when your outside temps were "only" -10C or -15C. If it's only failing to stay reasonably comfortable near around -30C (-22F), and that pattern is repeatable, seems pretty likely that's just the limits of the system. Especially at highway speeds which really sucks the heat through the glass.

Do you have the glass roof? If so, that's probably one of the culprits. Don't know if there's any product out there that can insulate it, or double-pane it. This company makes them for Teslas, but maybe somebody has something for the Mach-E?

I do think OP asked a valid question of why they would sell EV in an area with that climate.
Nothing wrong with selling them there. Just like nothing wrong with selling an RV that won't get used when it's 25 below either.

But yes, buyers would be wise to consider the limitations and ramifications of EVs in the cold, especially in extreme cold like that. May need to use an ICE vehicle instead on the really extreme days. Depending on one's situation, an EV may just not be a good fit. That's true of many situations, actually, not just extreme cold.

This is the problem: https://www.inverse.com/input/tech/...inst-extreme-weather-conditions-in-test-video

Things like this that say it was tested to -40ºC in some state of the art facility. Obviously they didn't test the heating well enough or it wasn't a good enough real life test.

I can see people looking to see if it is good in cold weather seeing information like this and being like "ok they tested it that cold then it should be fine for me" when in reality people at -25ºC are having issues.

Bottom line is it needs a bigger heater.
