Because you don't have a BT connection to your car.

Like BMT said....it shows on your screen above the buttons "Bluetooth Disconnected". It has a finite range, you have to be close for those to work.

Regardless of range it can contact the car via satellite/cell tower to start/stop the car, or lock/unlock which is why those are not grayed out.

Press and hold the start button then they’ll be active. it‘s a safety measure to keep you from inadvertently activating those when you first launch the app.

Not on anyone's. Like Mike stated, they're disabled when your phone's not connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth, usually because they're too far away from each other.

You need to setup PaaK. Though that won’t help you get drunk.

So was in the car and they’re still grayed out/disconnected. In my iPhone settings, there are apparently 2 Bluetooth connections (see photo) which I’ve read may be one for the sync and one for key. They constantly switch back and forth on their own. Honestly, I have no idea what’s going on or why it’s doing that.

Try force close FordPass app.

Why are all these grayed out?

STEP 1 - Set up PAAK
STEP 2 - Walk within 25 feet of the vehicle

Until you do the above, it won't work. You must be in Bluetooth range with PAAK set up to use those buttons. If it still doesn't work, force quit the app and reboot your phone.

So I decided to give Ford tech support a call. They helped me fix the Bluetooth issue. Basically everything had to be impaired, reset and start over. The only issue now is the walk away feature for phone as key. It unlocks on approach but won’t lock when I walk away.
