Does that mean that you aren't allowed to trim branches of a neighbor's tree that are hanging over your property? I don't see how you could have it both ways.

That seems like it could get very messy. You can trim the branches, but if you don't, and they fall it's your neighbor's fault? Are they allowed on your property to trim them?

It seems much more sane to do what every jurisdiction I've ever heard of does and just go by the property line. If the branches cross the property, they're yours.

So this happened to my 3-week old '22 Premium.

When the heavy winds brought the artic air to the east coast last Friday. In my driveway supposedly safe & sound but for overhanging limbs from the neighbor's tree. Insurance will cover but soonest Ford-certified shop appt is 2 weeks out. Hopefully replaceable & not totaled!

Pains my heart to see this. Wish you best of luck with the repair.

It probably would have bent the roof framing, possibly A and B pillars. Glass roof was a very good thing in this case IMO.
Very unlikely a branch would cause the entire car to collapse inward on itself. The pillars are meant to handle roll-overs, not crumple from a branch hitting the roof.

What likely would've happened is a dent in the roof that needed to be pulled out and then some paint work.

I disagree on the glass being a good thing as any average body shop can pull a dent and repaint vs the several weeks lead time on replacement glass.

I don't know the laws exactly, but in a recent issue at my house a neighbor had three trees that were leaning over my driveway, and were breaking and deteriorating and dropping a lot of branches. They were threatening both my house and car, but the problem was that nearly the entire tree was leaning over the line - if I had trimmed right at the property line there would have been about a 6' tall stump on their side and nothing else. None were valuable trees - just weedy Siberian Elms.

I was very close to doing so, but finally got a hold of the owners (not owner occupied) and they agreed to take them out at their expense (I even got them a good quote and offered to schedule the work and be there to meet crews). I had to bug them a few times, politely reminding them that a few hundred dollars today is going to be much cheaper than an insurance claim when the winter storms come...

I'm glad I pushed to get it done - this car could easily have been mine! I feel for the OP, and hope for a speedy repair.

Holly crap. Do you think it can just be buffed out? Little silver tape here and there... Maybe use the insurance provided glass repair kit...

But seriously, I hope they can get you up and running quick.
I made sure to ask my insurance if the glass protection covered the roof.

We can relate, 3 weeks ago we had a collision. Normally this would probably be fixed by now. But parts are hard to get and EXPENSIVE. The parts estimate for this insurance repair is already at $18k and growing. We may get the car back in mid or late January, maybe . . . . The photo on the right is current status at the body shop the one on the left is right after the accident. If the body shop guys can get the parts, it would be finished in just a few days.

PS - If you wreck a Mach E, you are going to be perhaps stressed out. #1, you must find a body shop that is "certified" to work on aluminum stuff. #2. After the body work is done, the entire sensor array must be recalibrated and that will take a certified Ford EV tech with the right tools. #3. The body shop will have to get up to speed on all of the unique idiosyncrasies of fixing a Mach E. i.e. OSHA High Voltage safety requirements to Paint Booth maximum temp limites, etc. "This is not a car, it is a laptop on wheels."

We are lucky, the body shop guys are taking on the challenge, they are fully engaged, they find it an interesting challenge because they have never fixed one like this before. They are doing research, presenting questions to Ford, etc. these guys are great.

We got the car back from the body shop this week.1/3/2023. Everything looks good, they did a good job. The total cost for this repair ended up at $15k. General scope of work was, replace hood, headlight assembly, fender, front grill, bumper parts, paint the parts and re-calibrate system. It took about 30 days to get the job complete. Getting parts was the biggest issue. Normally a job like this would have been done in about 1 week.

LOL! GEICO has said (so far) it's covered under the 'comprehensive' part of my policy- didn't talk about the glass coverage part. So hopefully I'll only be paying my deductible out of pocket. First going into the shop Monday for assessment /insurance adjuster. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Got my MME into the Ford-certified collision shop today. The word from Ford is that the headliner & related inside parts will be delivered in 2 weeks, but the replacement glass roof & frame parts will take 3 weeks. I had feared it could take longer (and it still could...) but if feels good to get it all going! I'll post again when I know more.

How did you find a Ford Certified repair shop. Have to get my MME Roof Glass replaced too.

Hi, How did you ultimately make out? What was the final cost? Also, did the claim end up raising your rates?

Kid's Tesla was parked at the foot of a bluff. A Madrone tree fell on it (a pretty dense hardwood) - broke every panel and window. The insurance company went ahead and repaired it.
