Hey Yall,

So on Sat. in the city, I went to an available charging station, only to find an ICE vehicle parked there. There was a lady inside her parked ICE vehicle lady doing nothing but scrolling her on phone, so I asked if she can move her car so I can charge, and she did not want to move at all. She said I would only allow you 20mins, and I am like uh no, its however long I need for my battery to reach the percent I need. She then points to the Telsa behind her charging, and said well that person been here all day, sorry not moving. I said you are not an EV and there is a sign stating for EV charging only, you cannot be here anyway.

Long story short, she didnt move, cops came (from seeing the interaction) and stopped to tell her to move (I am assuming, could not hear much as we were all in our cars) and she still didnt leave plus no ticket issued. I left and went to another station and waited for someone to finish their charge so I can charge up my vehicle.

Is there any way that we could report ICE vehicles from blocking EV charging stations? I know 311 here in the city is a way, but there should be something faster to get stations monitored from ppl like that.

The only thing I know to do is report them to the property owner.

At a EA stop I made a week ago two of the spaces were ICEd. The driver of one of the trucks was in the cab so I walked over and asked him if he knew that was a charging space. He did but he said he was just waiting for someone. Luckily there was one space available for me to charge. I think if I asked him to move so I could charge he probably would have. He was gone when I came back out to the car.

I bet that Tesla was hogging the space also. Was it fully charged? It is bad enough when an ICE driver does it, but it is even worse when an EV driver does it.

Sounds like the station was on private property and therefore the police have no jurisdiction to ticket or make her move. Your only recourse is to reach out to the property owner and see if they can or will do anything.

It was a FLO charging station in a public area, not private. So there was no where for me to really report it. But yeah it sucks there is no re-enforcement for things like this.

This is more of a humanity issue than a legal one. The older I get the more I see it. This isn’t an ICE vs EV issue, this is a total disrespect of our fellow humans. Happens everywhere. I also have a diesel(I know, right!) truck. Theres 4 diesel pumps and 12 gas pumps at our local Wallyworld. All pumps open and 4 cars filling at all 4 diesel pumps. SEE, it’s not just ICE, it’s just assholes. I could go on but I need to go tell people to get off my lawn. Rant over.

Unfortunately, most of society views EV drivers as smug rich people, so they're very likely to ICE spots and not care about blocking it. I've never seen anyone enforce EV spots, and I've gotten into a few arguments with ICE-holes blocking charging spots. There is no way around it, unfortunately. I've even spoken to security folks at malls who were very sympathetic, but even then there wasn't any urgency to fix the situation.

If I'm feeling particularly feisty, I park right behind their car and plug in. I don't recommend that because that's a stupid move and could get you shot in a lot of places, though.

In California I rarely see ICE vehicles in charging spots, although every once in a while there is one. Our problem is Teslas primarily, but other EVidiots as well. I would personally pay a tow truck to remove these cars if I could.

This location has like 15 plugs and they are never available:

Unfortunately people are just assholes but that's are society now
Unfortunately, society has always had assholes and likely to continue for a long time.

I'm willing to bet that when cars first arrived the horse & buggy set made parking difficult for cars, not to mention extra messy in the best spots.

I believe that was when the phrase “Shit Happens” was coined.

By far the biggest problem I see is BEV drivers leaving their fully charged cars plugged in and in a charging space long after their charge is done. I have seen a Tesla parked in a charging space and not plugged in, but only one time. It is rare to see a space ICEd, so I see that as a minor problem.

The biggest problem is people hogging "free" chargers, IMO. On a normal day, 50% of the chargers in my office building are occupied by a-holes who refuse to move their fully charged cars. I sort of understand why a Tesla driver wants to stay plugged in - they can lose 5% charge per day due to "vampire" battery drain. But so what? Get a MME if you don't want to worry about vampire drain, and move your damn car regardless.

This applies only to this specific case, but if she said she would move for 20 minutes, then honestly what would she be able to do once you were occupying the spot? (Yeah, I know in NYC she might key your car or worse, but doesn't seem toooo likely.)
