Details of incident: Phantom braking?? 15:12 hrs January 24, 2023
Blue-cruise hands free mode active but, Wife still keeps hands on wheel as usual for her, She is driving in fast lane, traffic is very light. I am in passenger seat reading an email on my phone.
2:05 PM – 2:33 PM After driving 79.8 miles, DC charged car in Los Alamos, plugged in at 49% unplugged at 85% added33.879 KWH.
Per fordpass app "My EV driving", the car was turned off at 2:56PM 12.7 miles later. During this portion of the trip there was a GPS error, driver’s screen kept saying to make a U-turn for the whole 12.7 miles, from Los Alamos to accident site.)
Dash cam times below are 26 minutes faster (later) than actual time.
15:12:11 Union Valley Parkway exit 166 (Santa Maria, CA) can be seen on the right, dash cam shows Speed 69MPH
15:12:29 Wife shouts “car is slowing down!” the SUV in front of us is at least 200 yards away so we should not slowing down. We are 50-100’ from the overpass, Speed shown on dash cam is 68MPH.
15:12:32 Wife is turning car into the center median. We have just passed under the overpass and are still in it’s shadow, Mach-e is straddling the yellow line, when we are impacted from behind. Impact is heard and felt, but seemed very minor. Nothing inside the car moved much. Estimated Speed at impact 5-10 MPH
15:12:35 Vehicle has stopped and is now all the way out of the lane. The older Toyota Corolla that hit us, passes on the right ( in the fast lane) and pulls over in front of us. Fluid is leaking from the front of the Toyota.
15:13:16 Car is still in drive and will not move forward (reverse brake assist and park aid fault error on driver screen, which was due to rear sensor damage from the impact).
15:13:20 From the passenger seat, I try placing the Selector from drive to park and it will not turn. Turned car off and back on, then shifted to drive. (powering off, automatically placed car in park). Wife was in a panic and we needed to get farther away from the fast lane before someone else, that is not paying attention, hits us.
(times below are accurate)
Wife called CHP at 2:48PM they arrived quickly and said it was Ok for us to go at about 3:10PM. CHP suggested we go to the local Ford Dealer.
Car drove fine and worked perfectly except for the reverse brake assist and park aid fault errors.
3:17 PM Arrived at Santa Maria Ford to have data downloaded, Fordpass says the trip was 4 miles, service rep says they cannot get any information until the car has all systems repaired. So we continued north to out next stop, Soledad.
5:16 PM arrived at Soledad DC charger charged from 9% to 65%
We have driven more than 500 miles since the accident with no further problems other than another GPS error, this time it thinks we are still at a location we left 15 minutes before.
Today, Jan 30, received Power-up 4.1.2
