When will Ford make the Lane Change Assist available on Blue Cruise?

If this does become a thing, I fully expect Phoenix to not work as a whole. No one here uses a turn signal and gore areas are 'passing lanes' to both get on and off the freeway. I witness almost daily someone from the middle (it's a 5 or 6 lane wide freeway + HOV lane + 2 lane enter/exit ramp lanes) cut across 3 or more lanes of traffic, through the gore to exit usually doing about 90+.

Did you share something along the lines of the hardware BC depends on in the '23s is different than the earlier cars... if I understood that right, took it to mean the end of the line for BC development for 21s and 22s.
I carefully said that MY23 has a different ADAS than MY21/22. BC 1.2 was designed originally for the new ADAS. If they are able to make that available with the ADAS installed in the MY21/22 then we will get it. If they aren't able to then we won't.

My issue in the other post was that some people feel like they are entitled (by huffing and puffing and threatening boycotts) to something that was never promised to them. There are many instances in technology where software just isn't available for the given hardware. Ford has not come out and said what they are planning to do and I'm not about to get in front of that. Anything else said by other people is pure speculation. I think people with MY21/22 should hope for 1.2, but not expect it and pay for BC if you use it, and don't if you fail to see value.

As other's have mentioned, frunk release is a good example of something that was said to come to the older MY21 cars, like 2 years ago, and still hasn't happened.

New MY vehicles are going to come with new technology. There's never been a prior expectation that older vehicles will get what comes out in a newer vehicle so I'm not sure why this phenomenon exists all of a sudden. I would love to get BC and future updates for free, just like everyone else, but when I hit that activate button I understood (because it's clear as day), that it was a trial and I had the opportunity to try it via the trial.

I’ve been told the plan is for BC 1.2 to be pushed this summer. Whether or not that holds is another story. Things happen and plans do change. Witness the ever changing Frunk release for job 1 cars target date. The latest on that iirc was in spring of this year???
I think a big update in the summer that includes all the BC modules would be a good way to do the frunk release modules as well

I agree. I think all current Mach-E's should be good for the 1.X versions of BlueCruise.

In the future when Ford gets into the 2.X versions of BC and if they include things like Hands Off + Eyes Off.... well maybe the computer processors in our older MME's are not up to that task.

Yeah, but rumors are rumors. Until Ford issues an official statement that clearly states it's coming, it's good to act as if it isn't. Nothing is official until it is from official channels. That's the stance I'm going to take on it. I have hope though some fun changes will be coming.

I think the only thing that people get hung up on here would be that it's advertised as software updates will improve the vehicle over time and make things better. Not saying it's okay, but I would equate it to their expectations for software updates on their phones. After 3-4 years they are okay with some new features not coming in an update due to hardware limitations, but not after just 1 year.

I agree completely that it comes down to the hardware, but also know that even if the hardware does support it, they might decide to hold off on pushing it as a way to market new purchases. Lots of tech companies have done this with features. (Apple definitely has several times.) So we will have to wait and see what Ford does and what news we get from official channels.

I agree with @DevSecOps on the need for a boycott. Nobody should pay a $600 subscription unless they’re going to receive updates. Otherwise we’re just paying subscriptions for static features like seat warmers, frunk release, etc. and that’s not a road we want to go down.

I also agree with @DevSecOps that there is absolutely no evidence that BC1.2 requires the newer ADAS and it is frankly irresponsible to suggest otherwise.

Per the following article published Apr 2021, the fact that Ford had "planned" to enhance BC with Lane Change Assit and Predictive Speed Assist features on 2021 models should mean the hardware is capable.

https://media.ford.com/content/ford...road-trips-bluecruise-hands-free-driving.html

"Beyond the 2021 F-150 and 2021 Mustang Mach-E, additional Ford vehicles will also receive BlueCruise hands-free driving technology, while current owners continue to receive over-the-air software updates to add new features and capabilities in the coming years.

Future enhancements are planned to include Lane Change Assist that will let the vehicle change lanes with just a tap of the turn signal indicator, and Predictive Speed Assist that will adjust vehicle speed for road curves, roundabouts and more"

They are after a subscription model. Updates will be timed to encourage renewal.

hopefully expanding competition may also see them wanting to push out features!

I know I won't renew it, lane centering works just fine as it is. I will be playing with disabling the CMR to kill both the IR emitter and the nonsense of a blocked visual ala hand at 12 on the wheel causing it to freak out for no reason. The knee dragging trick works just fine, and I drag it in hands free too JIC it decides to do something stupid, my knee on the wheel has enough force to override the car's steering effort. I do this as it is in the F150 since it's hands-on LC only, the same thing bluecruise defaults to on unmapped roads, without the eye alert nonsense. There's no sub fee to this and sub-less BC should default to it.

Because everyone assumes new features are just software changes at this point. I worked for an automotive supplier for years that manufactured ADAS and other radar units for cars. People have no comprehension of what these manufacturing processes are just for the hardware components. We had to build clean room environments within our plants.

I have not really been keeping up with this new Blue Cruise feature for the 23s but the one difference this has vs say adding a frunk button is that this potentially adds value to Blue Cruise subscriptions and renewals. I don't know how much it costs to send out a over the airwaves update but it would make sense to add the feature to older subscriptions although this particular feature does not excite me.
