Hi All - I have a MEGTPE and recently had received the latest software update...new icons, volume knob functionality and more stable.

My dealer had called and said they needed to do a software update for a fix on the heating system, and when I got the car back it was reset to a previous version of SYNC. I was hoping my car would automatically download the new update again, but that hasnt happened (its only been a couple of days).

I REALLY dont want to have to go back to the dealer...anyone know how/whether this update will happen again?

Thanks

Quick update - when the dealer put the new module in, it set me back to an older version of SYNC. Since then dealer took the vehicle back and has spent 2 days trying to get me to new version. They are really trying everything but, amazingly, Ford is essentially telling them there is nothing to be done. No way to put me back on new update, either manually at dealer or scheduled through Ford.

@Ford Motor Company - how can this be? This is really crazy. I am now stuck back on an old, buggy version after getting an upgrade, and you are telling dealer there is no way to bring me back to new version? Crazy!

Kind of a dumb question, but did they do a sync reboot? Sounds like it reverted to the backup install of Sync, it has an A/B software install so it can do updates on one while the other is working or if something goes wrong it can revert to good install. I didn't think there was a way for the dealer to rollback the sync software, so this is weird.

They said they had to actually swap out and replace a module in the car. I dont think they rolled back an update - I think the new module had the older software on it, and Ford is now not letting them update to the newer software. And because my car had already updated in their logs, they cant tell us when I will actually ever get the new software again...

Shoot. I hope they don't do this to mine.
There seemed to be a run of update pushes at the start of Feb. I'm hoping it's not another month before it gets updates.
BTW did you try checking your OTA status via the Fordpass website? If they canceled the update it could be a month before it tries again. (that was the case with mine)

The heating system update has nothing to do with Sync. It wouldn't have changed that. Now if they replaced the APIM, maybe? I'm not sure though.

Yeah I think that’s a flaw in their system, once a newer update has been applied to the car it won’t offer it again even if the current software is not latest.

FDRS also lacks a manual override option which would be useful for situations like this to manually re-apply the latest software again.

They did not think of all possible scenarios here with their program design so people get stuck at certain software versions with no upgrade pathway available.

This kind of stuff is what I call “Ford version hell”.

what could have they replaced to make the sync software rollback?

Obviously the APIM, which was probably not the right move for a HVAC issue.

My guess is they see the defrost LED code set by the headlight switch bug and then think that means the display or APIM is bad.

They should really release a SSM about that so techs don’t go on a wild goose chase over that code.

Thanks for this. At least if It happens to me I've got an idea of what went wrong.

Well I certainly hope this is a matter of "when" they will reissue the software and not that they just won't ever reissue it at all. That would be incredibly problematic!
However you would *think* (although I guess many of us are learning the hard way that this is a bad assumption) that @Ford Motor Company would have answers to how to handle these situations.

Isn't there an option in FDRS to do the "initial programming" for a module? Also, does the APIM need to be paired with a VIN before installing it? (I assume it's linking the VIN to software versions, which is why OP is in this predicament)

Can you PMI the APIM to get you out of version hell?

PMI will configure the module but won’t install the latest software. The software update should show up afterwards but it might not if the update has been completed on the VIN previously (with the old module).

They owe OP a new car then. That’s insane they will be stuck at current version forever.
