I'm getting my windshield replaced from Safelite. I wanted to make sure the glass is the "Acoustic" type and has the infrared coating (IRR). I requested OEM from Safelite and they came through with this Model#:

LJ8BZ5803100H

but Mine says:

LJ8BR03100FF

My question is...Is this actually the same glass???

My best,
Ray

Safelite does not replace windshields w/ the same windshield. They replace them w/ cheaper inferior windshields at the inflated price. When I replaced my Prius' windshield a few years back at Safelite they assured me it was the same. It was not.. When I went in to pick up the car they refused to let me inspect the work until I paid them first. I questioned and then protested to no avail. When they finally let me have my car the windshield did not come close to the original specifications. When I objected they just laughed and told me to leave.
The part # for Safelite is a Safelite windshield which will not match or be the same as the OEM.

Your local Safelite franchise was dishonest (sincere regrets). When I broke my Prius windshield, from the inside, our local Safelite replaced it with a Toyota Prius OEM windshield. They had to special-order it. From what I remember, this was caused by some interior special coating necessary for the heads-up Prius speedo display to work.

Which begs the question - if the need arrises how do you get an OEM windshield? It seems even Ford dealers whip you off to a 3rd party? I'm genuinely curious - never had to replace one...knock wood...

The Ford dealers, for the most part (at least mine does), use Ford certified shops.

Your good fortune my misfortune. Franchisees do have different MOs.

When you need to replace anything, you can always request OEM part directly from the manufacturer. That what I have done in this case, I just need to make sure it has the same features. As I believe different models and years of mach e's have different glass. When I looked up the OEM model number that Safelite gave me it does say anything about IRR or Acoustic. In fact it really say nothing about it specs...

Thank you, but I don't have the new glass to look at. I was hoping to make sure they bring the correct glass before they even come for the appointment. My current glass has these features.
My best,

FWIW, in the California Bay Area, Safelite’s default replacement windshield for my car is also OEM as of today. They did a good job replacing it in my driveway too. Must be that no cheaper alternative windshields are available yet. :)

Bad sign if the part numbers don’t match. I used Safelite to change glass on an Acura MDX and worked with the insurance company to order the right OE glass.

You are doing the right thing in ensuring they supply the right part. I would also recommend that you check the cure time for the structural adhesive they need to apply and keep the vehicle parked for that entire time (assuming safelite is coming to you).

…of course, they seem to have failed to reconnect the windshield washer hoses (big flood of washer fluid under the car instead of on the windshield as desired…). Anyone got tips on how to get in there to reconnect them?
