Question - is this amount of noise normal for cooling system?

I'm asking because I have nothing to compare it against. The cooling system fan seems louder that I think it should be (to me). Is this what others are hearing as well? I'm fine if its normal, just want to make sure it isn't abnormal as I had a car previously with a cylinder style fan system that caught a piece of debris in it and frankly sounded similar until I removed it.

This video was taken right after starting the car (having been parked overnight) on a hot day and cooling the cabin.

Hard to tell, the A/C compressor will make that buzzing noise, but I can't tell if your fan has a bad bearing or is out of balance?

BTW I recommend you leave the A/C set to around 74ÂşF AUTO, cranking it way down will generate excess noise.

Thanks for the reply. I have mine set to 72 or 73. Bad bearing might make sense. It just seems louder than I think it should be. Hence the post.

Well now you've got me paranoid. I bought the car in February. Since it got warm here I've noticed the AC sounds REALLY loud inside the cabin until it cools. Usually I've been keeping it at 72, so i can try 74...

I hear that same sound sometimes. When it is happening I can feel a vibration in the steering wheel as well. I bet it is the AC compressor too, maybe "normal"? Not sure. I want to avoid a trip to the dealer at all costs. I got my '23 in December, so I haven't really had to use the AC yet (Chicago area), but I realize it goes on for defrost as well. If anyone hearing the sound gets it diagnosed, please come back here and report!

Same. Steering wheel vibrates and it just seems unnecessarily loud. It does die down a bit once it gets the cabin to a maintain point vs a catching up/getting to temp.

Again, kinda why I posted the question. If many others have the same experience then it must be just the normal operation. I too don't want to go to the dealer at all costs. Especially being an EV, but also would want to take care of it under warranty.

I had the same question after my first summer Sounds like its pretty standard. Like a jet taking off and then after a min its back to a normal level.

After one and a half Phoenix summers I can confirm that the "jet taking off" sound is a standard feature. ;)

I have had people asking what is that noise as they thought EVs should be quiet. I just say that is the air conditioner. I have a 2022 premium. It is clear that the ac makes a lot of noise when temps are high. Once the Cabin is cool the noise is quite reduced.

ICE vehicles are just as noisy, but you have the engine noise to cover it up. If you still own one, turn the AC on and pop the hood. You'll hear a very similar buzzing noise if you're close enough to it.

Kind of reminds me of a story I read about the 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost. It was TOO QUIET. SO quiet, that it was actually nauseating some drivers & others became sensitive to noises that they would not have heard if there was SOME engine noise..

As other have said, it’s pretty noisy and I feel slight vibration on initial startup and cabin cooling especially when hot. But it cools quickly and ramps back down. I find it oddly comforting, it seems to say that the compressor and cooling system has good capacity such that it can really crank when it needs to, but is normally pretty quiet.
