An open letter to @Ford Motor Company - If you're reading this, you're likely on the social media team, and aren't allowed to respond to this type of post. But I'm just trying to get some attention on this. So please pass this on internally!

I use BC with intelligent cruise control every day for my commute. For the most part it works very well, but there is a section of the interstate near my home that is incorrectly mapped. The speed limit is 70 MPH, but for a section near my house the internal map data shows 50MPH. The result is every time I pass that section of road, my car SLAMS on the brakes in the middle of the freeway to match the 50MPH speed limit. Then a few moments later, it sees the physical speed limit sign for 70MPH and speeds up again. Rather dangerous behavior if there's any amount of traffic.

The mapping data comes from Here technologies, not Ford. I submitted a map correction months ago, but it has been ignored and is continually "under review". I know I'm not the only one who has run into this issue.

True this is a problem "technically" caused by Here, and not Ford. But the buck has to stop somewhere, and this is a Ford product in the end. If there was an accident caused by this behavior that would be a Ford problem. So Ford. PLEASE fix it. Hold HERE accountable for map updates, or fix the data yourselves, as this is making YOU look bad.

Forum members. If you have had a similar issue write below! Let's get some attention and light on this issue!

PS - PLEASE do not say "Turn off intelligent CC". That's not the solution here. That's a just a band-aid. This feature is rock solid most of the time. So let's just get it the rest of the way there!

Similar but different situation in Southern NH on 95, headed north just after the Hampton tolls. Its a 70mph zone, but then there is a 50mph sign, so the car hits the breaks. Speed of traffic never slows. In this case though something should be done, do I have submit this to National Highway Traffic to get that sign removed? Its a topic that will start popping up, and we should get these cases resolved before more cars start using this tech. Would be nice to have an easy way to report these, even an in car option to report (Speed Sign Assist error). If the company sees multiple complaints for the same area someone looks into it.

Just curious - do you have speed sign recognition turned on? Is there a 50 MPH sign around the area where the vehicle slows down?

There is no physical 50MPH sign visible. I went to the HERE website and verified that it is, indeed mapped as 50MPH for that section of freeway. My best guess is that there was construction on that section of road when they mapped it and there was a temporary low speed limit in that area.

About half a mile down the road from this incorrect mapping data, there is a physical sign that says 70 mph. When I pass that the car sees it and corrects the speed limit

I submitted a correction online, but it's been ignored.

Darn it! Now I can't say anything at all...

But in all honesty, I had the same problem with other mfgs and there was never a solution. Good luck but I haven't heard of anyone getting anywhere with any of these issues.

Google maps has my street name incorrect. They have my street and the cross street switched for just 1 block. I mean anyone looking at the map should be able to be like, well that doesn't make sense. I have lived there for almost 7 years and have made multiple reports, even with screen shots from the City's official GIS site. But it's still wrong. The most frustrating part is they will send me an email saying my correction has been published but it's not. So I wish you luck in getting your update actually published because these map people are very stubborn that they are correct.

I'm not going to tell you to turn it off. But I've never seen the usefulness in speed sign recognition on the highway. I think it's great for long drives on state roads that constantly go through towns where the speed limit drops to 25mph and goes back up to 50mph. But on the highway, speed limits are generally the same for large portions of travel. I'd rather just manually adjust the speed setting occasionally on the highway than deal with it slamming on the brakes.

I successfully got HERE to update a road near my house, from 25 that it dropped to (in error), to 55. It is reflected in their database accurately. It is NOT updated in the Ford Navigation, and won't be for a long, long time. That's per HERE, and reality.

Turn off sign recognition, which also uses a database.

Every 3 months AFTER HERE makes the change, check to see if it works.

This is the first definitive confirmation I’ve seen that intelligent cruise’s speed limit recognition relies in any way on map data. Interesting.

I turned mine off because the intelligent isn’t so intelligent and frequently gets confused by slower frontage road signs.

The only response you’re going to get from @Ford Motor Company, if any, is “that doesn’t sound like the experience we want. Please DM me your VIN and dealership.” And then you can ask your dealer to fix the issue LOL.

I’m honestly not sure why you would want the speed recognition / adjustment on. You can literally just turn that single item off and get all the other benefits of BlueCruise / ACC without dumb behavior like that.

I find it useful to know that I missed a change in speed limit, up or down. I keep my foot above the accelerator, so if the car starts to slow I simply push on the pedal. If I see a sign coming up I do it before it reacts.

Seems like an indirect way of telling him to turn it off, NGL.

It's very useful on roads where the speed limit changes. When I drive south on the interstate where I live, the speed limit gradually goes from 70 to 80. Having that automatically managed is very handy

YES!

I turned that thing off because of similar behavior where the DOT left signs up loooong after the construction was done. I now BC in "Commando" mode. I don't care what the sign says, this is how fast I'm goin'.

Yeah, I almost always drive while going commando, but normally don't post about it online. To each their own I guess.
