Ford derated the 4x ER premium’s EPA range estimate after the initial testing. It wasn’t by a huge amount as I recall, but that's how it came up with exactly 270 miles. Things have changed a bit since 2021.
I don’t remember that. But I don’t think the GT and 4X ever had the same EPA rated range.**

I also don’t think Ford ever estimated them to be the same either. In 2021 (before the GT came out) the Ford estimates were even lower. I think 250 GT and 230 GTPE if I remember correctly.

Edit- apparently they both showed 270 range…. Even though the 4X MPGE is better. Seems contradictory.

If I recall, manufacturers are allowed to nerf their range ratings, but the MPGe is fixed based on the amount of energy put into the pack after depletion.

GT 270 miles

It’s only about a 10% difference.

And if you’re driving and charging from 20% to 80%, it’s really only a few miles.
The 4X regularly meets or exceeds its EPA range, even at freeway speeds. Stretching it out on a single charge, I’ve gotten about 225 EPA total on the GOM. I just don’t see how both the 4X and GT ever had 270 miles range when the GT doesn’t even come close but the 4X easily shoots past it.

ps I’m glad the 4X has more rated range now than back in 2021.

Gotta ask…… is the juice worth the squeeze?

How long of a trip? How often will you make the trip?

Do you really want to spend hundreds of dollars to save a few minutes charging? And ride uncomfortably (no air) for a few extra miles of range?

And driving slowly may get you farther between charges, but it also takes you longer to get there.

Basically, what are your goals? Saving time, money, or something else?

It is a big math problem. If you know how far you’re going, you could calculate the rough number of charging stops, time charging, and total travel time at different speeds.

I don’t think you’ll look at the math and want to end up buying wheels/tires, drive slow and no a/c, but maybe you are trying to shave a few minutes off the trip.
I drove a 2010 Grabber Blue Shelby GT500 daily for 220,000 Km over 11 years and didn't think twice about how many gas stops I made or the cost...it was too much damn fun!!! The 1/4 mile drags and track days I think I got about 5 MPG! The car cost $55K CAD and I estimated I spent $55K on premium gas!!

Besides driving at under 65mph on adaptive cruise control and keeping the AC off…

if I swap to different wheels and tires, can I approximate the range of. CA RT 1 or Premium AWD on a base GT?
You bought a GT because??? Enjoy it for what it is...extremely quick (albeit for only 5 seconds), nice nose, nice wheels, nice brembo brakes!!

Drive 55??
One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no
So I tried my best illegal move
A big black and white come and crushed my groove again

Go on and write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 55
Oh no, uh

So I signed my name on number 24, hey
Yeah, the judge said, "Boy, just one more, huh
I'm gonna throw your ass in the city joint"
Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I say, "Yeah, oh yeah"

Write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 55, oh yeah

I can't drive 55
I can't drive 55
I can't drive 55
I can't drive 55

When I drive that slow, you know it's hard to steer
And I can't get my car out of second gear
What used to take two hours now takes all day
Huh, it took me sixteen hours to get to L.A

Go on and write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 55

No, no, no, I can't drive (I can't drive 55)
I can't drive (I can't drive 55)
(I can't drive 55)
(I can't drive 55)

Unbridle Extended reduces Hp by around 150 from what I've read elsewhere.

Would doing an interstate trip in Unbridle Extended get you more range because of the reduction in HP output?

Asking for a friend..... (I don't have a GT.....yet)

No

The difference only matters if you floor it.

Electric cars are pretty simple when it comes to efficiency. Takes a certain amount of power to move you at a certain speed.

The difference in efficiency between models has more to do with tire/wheel differences and motor differences. The bigger motors are slightly less efficient.

You'll see a whole lot of fancy answers to this question, but the two biggest impacts on EV range are speed and cabin heat.

The difference in energy use between 65 and 75 MPH is easily 10%.
The amount of energy used for cabin heat depends on where you set the thermostat and the outside temp, but can easily be also another 10%.

So turn off the heat and slow down. Or you could replace your wheels. Maybe that's easier.

It is amazing the compromises we put up with to drive this car.

I see it less as a compromise than an adjustment to a different way of doing things. But then I've never really been a need for speed guy.

I like to drive fast. And I like a warm cabin in the winter. Anything less is a compromise. It's like we are back to horse and buggy days, when we plodded along and had to bundle up or freeze to death. I realize that is an exaggeration, but still. We are willing to accept less because we want to drive a BEV.

Don't get me wrong, I Iove my car. I won't slow down but I do turn the heat back a lot more than I did in my previous ICE vehicle.
