Just called my Ford dealership to schedule a NY state inspection and they told me that they “don’t do NYS inspections”. I’ve never heard of a dealership not doing inspections. Any one else experience this? Is there any risk taking this car to somewhere else for it?

Do they sell new cars without inspection stickers?

Depending on what your inspection requirements are, it’s likely that there is no harm in taking the car elsewhere to get it done. ?‍♂?

Thats what I was thinking. Sounds like since they don’t make any money off of it they don’t want to be bothered. I’ve owned many cars and have never had a dealership tell me this before as it’s usually offered to their customers. Just thought it was odd and not great customer service.

I’m in NC, took mine to a Valvoline for the inspection (No lifts, they drive it over a put to get under). You also might want to see if there is a Quick Lane. That’s Ford’s version of a Jiffy Lube. They usually do inspections, too.

No requirement for the dealer to do the inspection

I bought a vehicle from a dealer
The dealer must have the vehicle inspected within 30 days of the date of sale and prior to delivery.

I’m in NY. I hate going to the dealer so I visited my local mechanic that handles my ICE vehicles. He said no problem on the inspection, no need to lift. Roll it in perform the safety inspection and out

The reason so many people are mentioning not having to put it on a lift is because there's a very good chance someone will mess up the jack points as they're not in a super obvious place. The consequences of this going wrong are messing up the battery rails which could total the car. So make sure whoever does the inspection understands this is an EV (you'd be surprised).

I use them also and they told me they don’t do it. I brought the car to a local tire shop in New City and they handled

In NJ inspections are handled exclusively by state DOT. They used to allow it, but changed it a number of years ago, I guess there was too much cheating going on (it's NJ :p)

On the outside of all motor vehicle stations in NY there will be a state registration to be either a repair shop or vehicle sales dealer. Green sign or Yellow. It should be above the service doors. Bolted to the building. The sign will say it they are a NYS Inspection facility. If that sign is posted, then they are required to do inspections on all class vehicles that they are certified on. If they refuse, they are in violation. Unless they are under suspension. A likely case as the state has been not renewing techs that haven't updated there training. Each tech has to log in with their individual ID QR code to the computer to even hook up to a vehicle. State owns and maintains each inspection computer and printer. They also have to scan the Registration and inspection sticker. The State police also have the ability to scan the stickers for verification, but rarely do. You can notify Motor Vehicle of the refusal. It may be just a fine, but they also have pulled dealer sales licensee for that bull. No inspection station makes money on inspections unless they find something wrong and have to provide a temp inspection. You have the right to go to any station with the yellow placard.

For ICE cars private mechanics can inspect in NJ but you pay a fee. It’s free if you have it done at the DMV. But EVs are exempt from inspections in NJ, which is a nice perk.

I'm in MA and my dealer doesn't do inspections either. Pointed me to a service 1/4 mile down the road. Don't think it has anything to do with the car, just the state requirements and money involved.

Yep. This is another example of where permanently installed lift pucks would be nice. Most states with inspections require removing at least 2 wheels and a quick road test. To someone who's not aware, those battery rails look like they were meant to lift the vehicle from.

In Illinois, inspections are done for free by the state and cover emissions only. EVs are exempt.
