As I read a thread this morning about the potential for an adapter to be available via the Accessories.Ford.Com site in Spring 2024, and @Mach-Lee pointing out that you could use FordPass points, I thought reminding people that points expire might be in order.

FordPass points expire if no activity within a year two years. Activity is both spending and adding. Buy a car, get points, don't use them for a year two years, they're gone. Spend a few, or add to them, and the clock resets.

Before Ford made this a corporate thing (they used to be specific to your dealership), I kept mine going by buying a bolt and nut for $1.00. After the conversion, I used my 2021 purchase points to buy mats and such, and the remainder towards my 2021 (and dealer didn't deduct them), and then used my 2022 points to buy my Lightning (and dealer didn't deduct them either).

Also, did you know that you can get points credited to ANY FordPass account? My mother has no account, and she had service done and bought new tires. Tires had a rebate, X dollars or X times 2 points. I got all of that credited to my account by her dealer.

So remember, points expire in a year two years if not added to or subtracted from.

Is it not 2 years?
  • Do FordPass Rewards Points expire?FordPass Rewards Point balances expire and are forfeited when a member has not earned or redeemed Points for two years. App usage does not qualify as activity needed to keep a member’s account from expiring.

Interesting. It was one year. It is now two years. December 2022 page shows the 1 year, March 2023 pages shows the change.

Regardless, if you bought a 2021 you need to stay on top of this.

Hey, I have the same issue - my dealer that used 100,000 points ($500 as cash down on the contract) for the Mach E I bought 2 months ago had not deducted points yet - even as I check today...

Is this common ?

Still showing 100K points over what I should have:

Is it common that dealerships are not competent on things?

May 2022 never deducted.
May 2023 never deducted.

I'm not asking, I'm spending.

When I got the extended warranty on the used Focus Electric we had before the MME, I used 50k points towards it, and it took them about three months before they were deducted. It's all about when they submit the paperwork, not the actual transaction time. Which can suck if you are wondering if you can use them elsewhere or just don't realize they didn't take them and use them on something else down the road.

This is a good PSA and I am glad you covered that any spend or earn resets the date, that seemed to be a common misunderstanding when I see people bring up the points and is very generous on Ford's part, most other loyalty point systems from companies tie expiration to the individual point batches, and I hate it.

I got the FordPass Credit Card back when we got the 2021 F-150. I am very picky about credit cards we get as we collect and spend points for travel through CC churning and hate to waste a hard pull, but that card has been a great benefit. Not only did I get about $1000 back from buying the F-150 and putting $3k of the down payment on the CC (and paying it off of course), but I got a ton of points for the transaction also. I don't use the card day-to-day, but every six months or so will use it to get gas or whatever and the 50-100 points from that transaction post to my FordPass account and renews the expiration.

I just used 100k points when I got my 2023 F-150, and had used 50k points on the Mach-e, also use them for accessories and oil changes (on the truck). That program has been Ford's best idea and best executed idea in a long time, which is maybe kinda sad. But if you look at the terms and best point spend opportunities, it's funny enough one of the most beneficial point programs out there, and since the FordPass card has no fee, it's so easy to just renew the point expiration for "free".

I tried to use my points the other day since I get the expiration warnings frequently. I was going to get the windshield shade, since there is nothing I really want. I was unable to complete the transaction - shipping not available or some such nonsense, and not able to pick up at the dealer.

Thanks for this post! Just realized that I had 32K points missing. Found out that I had two accounts and they were adding to the old account! You saved me big

I was promised a lot of points after buying a CPO. Never got them! It's been almost two months since the purchase. Is that normal? Honestly I don't care about the value of the points, but I want them because I am petty.

One data point, I just used my Ford points this week that I earned when I purchased the car in March 2021. No points transactions since the purchase.

Customers who purchase a Ford Blue Advantage vehicle will earn 22,000 Points for a Gold Certified vehicle and 11,000 Points for a Blue Certified vehicle if they join within 60 days of vehicle purchase.+ Used vehicles not certified under Ford Blue Advantage do not qualify.

I also discovered I'd created a second account somewhere along the way. Can't move points but it doesn't matter. You can spend 'em as long as you know the e-mail/account# they were saved under.

Thanks to OP @RickMachE for this reminder re: expiry.

I was in a similar situation. It took quite a few months to get this straightened out. Seems they had somehow tied my car ownership to my wife's account - which she set up minutes after me, while we were at the dealership. Many calls and emails to straighten this out. Now, I don't know what to do with the points I fought for, lol.

I signed up for the FordPass rewards credit card. I gain points every month so it is not an issue for me. 10% back in ford service points, 5% back in dealership purchases plus other perks.

Same here - Ford Pass VISA card has been very good.
Sign up bonus was amazing for a no AF card.
Points for the down was 10x the amount.
To keep it alive, I use it every week when I charge at a public DCFC.

In addition to the $500 down on the MME, I used it to order a Ford rear spoiler.
Should look like this on my Space White MME:
