My welcome lights seem to be totally random as to where and when they come on to greet me. Most of the time, I can't get them to work at all. I can't get them to come on in my garage as a test but, they did work one night when I was out and the car was in a parking garage. But, I have only seen them work that one time. They are turned on in the UI and I have toggled them to see if that would correct it.

Seems like a fault as mine work 24/7

I experienced the same thing when I first got my MME a year ago and it can be a bit frustrating. I contributed to some posts about the same question. You can try searching for them.

Here are a couple things I learned about increasing the odds that the welcome lights, including the "magic pony", will come on:

1) The MME needs to sense that you have walked away from the MME completely. So make sure that your key fobs are either far enough away or placed in a Faraday box. Also make sure that your cell phone is far enough away from the MME that it can no longer sense the cell's bluetooth signal.

2) If the car goes into a deeper sleep mode, the welcome lights will not come on. I noticed that if my wife did not drive the MME for 2-3 days, the lights would not come on when she or I walked up to it. But after coming home after a drive, the lights would come on much more consistently.

Good luck!
Joe

Yeah if your keys are always kept closer than 25’ it might not activate

Mine come on when I open the door.

The welcome lights work at any time of day with a couple of exceptions:
  1. The pony ground projections only happen at night or in dark environments
  2. Phone as a key can have a bit of a delay - so if you approach the car quickly with phone key, the lights may not have time to come on before you open the door. Approach the car a bit more slowly, or use the key fob and results will be more consistent.

I always walk at the speed of light so I rarely see the welcome lights

I only see the welcome lights when I have my key fob after approaching from a distance and locking the car. The phone as key method has become unreliable as a whole recently (android). I will try deactivating and reactivating the feature shortly.

In addition to the above, the welcome lights will stop functioning if you activate them too many times in a short period. Example: You park next to your office door. You walk to the front of your office several times within a short period. Each time, the lights come on. After the Nth time (not sure of the number of times) the come on, the car’s logic says not to turn them on any more. ??

Heck mine come on even if I don't have a key fob or my phone with me. Just open the garage and there they are. On and waiting. But the car is unlocked in the garage.

I know for a fact it responds to BTLE (even without PaaK set up) as I've triggered them walking the dog and approaching my driveway.

They pony projections come on during the day too, you just can’t see them.
Correct. I see them in my garage during the day just fine.

Nope, tried all of this last night in my garage after dark. Moved the fob to the other side of the house (well over 25') tried walking up to the car before dark, after dark, deep sleep, unlocked it and relocked it, went in the house and came back out, opened the door. Pony lights never illuminated.

They are toggled on and I have seen them work before, the one time in the parking garage at night....

The mirrors must also be folded for the pony lights to go on.

Yup, mirrors were folded in also. Not the end of the world but it would be nice if they worked. I liked them. The one time I saw them! LOL
