Phone Charger Heat

I just put the phone face down. Problem solved, no charging and no hot phone.

That should work. Will most likely try blocking it at some point so I can throw the phone right side up also. Not sure if we will see it fixed anytime in the near future.

I will try some material. Maybe sheet metal? Plexiglas or plastic would be better for abuse. Need to read a bit how it connects. A toggle to shut it down would also work.

Anyone else out there notice the phone charger also cooks your phone? I can't leave mine on for long periods because it heats it up to the point the screen is too hot.

I have a short, coiled lightning cable on the right side for time when I need a charge. I don't use the left side anymore.

If you haven’t gotten the WACM update at your dealer yet, the phone will get really hot. After the update the phone will actually charge and won’t get as hot.

This also solves the problem of disconnection when exposed to strong (probably illegally strong) wifi signals near road construction sites.

Interesting. Drove through an area twice a couple days ago where this happened and while I didn't take exact note of the locations, I think it was the same area going in both directions. I wondered if this might be the issue...

I was told the fix is for iphone 12 and 13 and since I noted mine is an iphone 11 it does not apply. For a half an hour drive it is no problems but don't be leaving it there for a few hours on a trip. With my iphone 7 it was not a problem as it did not have wireless charging. Now with the 11 it will get so hot carplay will crash and that is the end of that. Can not be good on the phone. I Need to make a mental note on trips to not placing it there as it does not work and could damage the phone. Hard to believe there is no way to disable it in the car or with the phone.

Unfortunately this seems to just be a problem with phones these days. In my previous car had the same issues. My solution in the Mach-E has been to use wired CarPlay, put the phone on the center console, and aim one of the dashboard vents down towards it to blow cool air.

Hardwired when needed and on the passenger seat here but yes same fix. Just streaming carplay not on the Ford wireless charger is no problem here and the air cooled solution has not been required. Just watched your vid about yours again yesterday. Not looking for an expensive new pad and will be looking for some piece of material I have kicking around here to go under the mat to block it.

Believe it says for 12/13, probably 14 too but not just 14. I wonder why they don’t just push updates like this OTA. Wish this applied to 23 as well because yes it’s the same issue.
