Would it be possible for EV manufacturers to register your car/VIN number so instructions could be explained to you on your desktop/laptop? This could end those cryptic messages that require pages of reading. They could give you instructions on how to and options on when to update. They could also message you as to any problems. I would much prefer to do this in the comfort of my home, no stress while driving, futilely trying to start my car (or stop it). I could even printout a page of instructions, take them out to my car and do as ordered. Chat would work very well if this all didn't work on the first try or two.

ps Chat AI could offer the first correction, but then switch to actual person. Most of the time I use chat I get the answers I need quickly, wasting neither my time, nor that of the technician.
That’s what FordPass and the owner’s manual is already for, Ford also has a virtual one registered to your car/VIN when you login to the Ford owner’s dashboard.

However it is missing information on updates, it would be really nice if they could just be more transparent about an update being released but not available yet for your car. Instead of people worrying that their car has been “forgotten“ about with OTAs, which indeed does happen quite often. Shocking how much could be improved by simply even more communication to the customer.

Okay, I'm very intrigued by the comment that having the key in the vehicle improves charging system voltage. If the vehicle is "running", I don't understand why having the key in or out of the vehicle makes a difference.

Will you please explain? Thanks!
That's just how it's programmed. Charging system voltage is dependent on many factors including temperature, gear selection, key inside or outside vehicle, and blower speed.

Thanks-----I still don't understand the logic of different voltages based on whether the key is in or out of the vehicle, but at least now I understand that makes a difference.

I checked my MME for updates, and it said that it was up to date. It has only had one since I have owned it. I wonder what's up?
That section will always tell you that your car is up-to-date, just like your service advisor will always tell you your car is up-to-date.

Well, I just received 5.1.1 this weekend. Guess, I'm a little late to the party :(...

Thanks I appreciate the info. Really helpful info but that makes sense. You would think the cars could receive OTA at the dealership but I guess they don’t start receiving until someone buys the car.
Thanks again for the info! ??
My car was a mannequin. I was offered the car about two weeks after it arrived at the dealership and we agreed on terms before it had to sit there on the remainder of the mandatory 60 days the FCTP program required till I could take it home.

I did get to drive it right after I saw it, and while in the seat I set the daily schedule for OTAs to 0900. During that 45 day wait my salesman would occasionally start the car up and run it down the street and back just to keep things awake and alert, and so by the time I got the car it had processed three OTAs.

So when dealers get new cars they don't adjust any of the settings the car came with from the plant. And on my car at least, the automatic updates were initially set to "Off".

I think what they did was remove my premium and add my GTPE but seeing as today I got 5.1.1 who knows
My '21 Premium was enrolled and when I traded it I dis-enrolled on the site. I enrolled my '23 at that point as well. but strangely I'm getting emails asking how I liked such and such update, when I haven't gotten it on the current vehicles I own but instead it appears that my old '21 got updated. So I guess it never really got dropped out of the EA program.

It’s actually funny, I turned off connected vehicle services and wifi entirely, and it still did the fake
“checking for updates…. -> no updates available”
Just madness.

That FCTP program looks pretty neat. How many miles did you have on your car? Did you still get the tax rebate?

220 at delivery. They stopped driving it (for the most part) right after I agreed to buy it. And I can't remember on the tax whether I got the full or just the half tax credit this time. I'd have to go look that up.

On the FCTP program....dealers are encouraged to put cars on there. My dealership had put my car on there and there was a 'grace' period, for want of a better term, that they could remove it if a customer walked in and wanted to buy the car right now. Well we missed that cutoff by a day. So it had to sit out the whole 60 days (62 days actually, because of a long weekend) before I could take it home.

Does anybody know what 6.1.0 results in as far as the rev of the gateway after it's updated? I'm seeing LJ8T-14H021-PAE on a '22 model but I'm not sure that's going to be the same for all model years.

Ugh, I'm still stuck on 3.5.3, I don't think I will ever get another update ?
We're in same boat - 3.5.4 here... and waiting.

BTW - not that I'm super interested in it, my update details for 3.5.4 says something "you may notice we added video streaming..." well, no sign of it in my car. Makes me wonder about the structure of how these updates are rolling out (I mean the two I've gotten since March of 2022!
