The Cybertruck will definitely be priced lower than the F150 Lightning.

Don’t early adopters always pay more? Don’t prices go down when production costs go down due to mass production? Don’t prices go down when manufacturing techniques improve? Don’t we want prices to go down to get everyone in an EV? Questions, questions, questions!

Lastly since when is it Elon Musk’s job at Tesla to worry about other EV manufacturers making money? His job to his shareholders is to literally put all of them out of business!
This isn’t that.

It’s not a price cut as a result of manufacturing efficiency.

It’s a price CRASH because one manufacturer is trying to force the competitors out of the market.

If he wins this price war, BEV consumers will lose due to lack of models to choose from.

I’ll say it again, this is good for anyone looking to buy a Tesla right now, and bad for everyone else.

If I were in the market for a new Tesla, this would be freakin wonderful.

Hell, when the X plaid dropped recently it was even enough for me to spend a few days researching it and pondering making a change. Decided not to, but still thought about it.

Definitely agree about your last point. And since I drive the competition……. I don’t like it!

And unlike the Lightning it will probably sell.
Other than the early adopters, I think EV trucks will be a hard sell. They still can't tow very far, so for a work truck or truck used to towing toys, it's still not very feasible.

The other group that buy trucks, buy them because they look tough. I don't think EVs appeal to this group. Really hard to "roll Electrons." Doesn't have the same affect as deiseal. I think the cybertruck will be a sales disaster.

If his goal with drive the competition out of the market, why open up the supercharger network?

I think Tesla's pricing philosophy is to sell as many cars as they can build. They seem to be on a straight, aggressive supply/demand pricing. If there extra supply, lower prices, too much demand, raise prices. Competition be damned.

Plus we don't have to worry about other OEMs stopping EV production because the gov't is forcing them to make them.

Tesla has manufacturing output that they need to sell. I suppose cutting prices is "cheaper" than idling factory lines. With their profit margins, they can continue to do that.

With their small service center footprint relative to their manufacturing output, they are one massive physical recall away from being in deep trouble.

Tesla isn’t trying to crash the market as that would also be bad for Tesla. They’re trying to undercut it and can do so because their manufacturing has become so much more efficient over the past 15 years. It’s forcing others to play catch up. Heck, Tesla was legitimately worried about bankruptcy during the Model 3 early buildup and now they’re quite profitable. If a startup can do it, Ford and the other legacy manufacturers can get there too.

We can’t be pro-capitalism only when it favors our own particular situations.

Honestly I get what you are saying but I have seen so many on this forum say they would never buy a Tesla whatever the price. I'm sure there are loyalists to other manufacturers as well who would not buy a Tesla so I don't see it killing off all the competition. But, as you say, it is kinda giving the middle finger to past Tesla purchasers as they paid so much before the massive drops in price.

In addition to some of these other wonderful comments...

It's not Teslas fault that everyone else is late to the game. No one else took the risk in electrification that Elon took. If they don't make it that's their fault.

So true, they could have been right there with him.

Only so far for $$$ to drop before the others will be able to sue Tesla for “dumping” product. Not there yet, but, can’t go down to 0 either. It just reeks of desperation if you ask me. Dude is legit worried. And he should be.

Who exactly are the others you speak of and what exactly would be their cause of action as to damages occurring?

Have you looked at sales numbers??

Q3 Tesla sold nearly 500k EVs

Q3 Ford sold nearly 21k EVs.

I would be worried too if I was selling 24x the volume of my competitor who just lost 4.5B on EVs. /s
