They better get their part situation figured out. My car has been sitting at the dealership for over a month now with NO SIGN of the part arriving yet. If this recall goes out, they better have the goddamn parts available.

My experience has been an absolute shit-show (pardon me).
Mine HVJB just went today. Called the dealer (Canada) and they told me they had no idea when they could get me in and the part is on hold...

I called Ford Canada customer service and the lady could offer me no insight.

I am extremely frustrated at this point. I don't need a fix today or tomorrow (or even next week) but tell me what to expect so I can prepare my family for this inconvenience.

It does look to be a part replacement. Keep in mind that since the recall is not out yet, dealers cannot perform it yet unless there is an active failure.

Once the recall is officially released there will be a repair procedure documented, including if parts will need to be ordered or can be in stock beforehand.

I have a feeling the big challenge will come at the dealer level. Once the recall is released I think there will be a big influx of people looking for appointments, but with most having only one or two EV techs and a job that takes a tech a good part of the day to complete, there will be a long wait to get this recall completed. I also wonder what will happen to someone who has a failure, doesn’t know the background story, and calls their local dealer only to be told it will be over a month (or longer) before they can get the car in to be looked at.
I had a failure today (Canada) and was told that they had no appointments available until Nov. 14th but that for the HVJB, they don't have any time period for replacement repair.

I called Ford Canada and was told they had no information. I reminded them that I was not calling to get a replacement part due to the recall. I have an active failure and I am not driving the vehicle.... crickets and was offered no time frame.

I'm not pleased.

The part should not be on hold. You will get the current generation of the HVBJB, not the next generation that isn't out yet and will come for the recall.

While I'm in the US, not Canada, I dropped my car off for this work on Monday and got it back this morning.

Thank you. I agree this would be an acceptable approach. I asked them flat out.. if it occurred two weeks ago, before the recall, what would you have done? Told me that there was no repair available?

Right now I'm left with no information and no help.

The part is probably not on hold. If this is the first one for your Dealership, they may not be aware that this part must be expedited with the COPIS order process rather than usual inventory.

If they have the current TSB in hand, it details the part numbers, procedure, and I think it even tells them to use the COPIS order process to expedite. If they don't know what you are talking about, then ask them to transport to closest dealership that has an EV tech that has done some of these....

Excellent information, thanks for posting. The document you attached titled "Part 573 Safety Recall Report" indicates that the remedy will include replacement of the existing HVBJB (Part # LK98-10C666-AB for the GT models) with a new HVBJB (Part # LK98-10C666-AD for the GT models). The new part appears to be the third iteration of the HVBJB, since other previous threads reported that their failed HVBJBs were replaced with Part # LK98-10C666-AC, again for the GT models. So the part # has gone from -AB to -AC to -AD (three versions). The part #'s for the non-GT Extended Range versions appear to follow the same three version pattern.

Further, the document describes the changes in the part as follows: "The updated BEC (NK48-10C666-AC, NK48-10C666-BC, LK98-10C666-AD) design has flat contact surfaces and the groove on the movable contactor surface is removed. "

These changes don't fill me with confidence, as I would like more detail about how this solves the problem and provides a much more robust thermal management system for the contactors. Perhaps the more technical types can weigh in here about their confidence level in these modifications of the part.

This apparent third version of the part also implies that owners whose original failed HVBJB was replaced with the second version of the part will now get the third version of the HVBJB as part of this recall. This is all speculation on my part, so would welcome any other thoughts/opinions as we sort through the mess Ford has made.

Ford, if you are listening , More Information Please!
Maybe the problem isn’t the letter in the part numbers, it’s the 666!

There are a few things that make me scratch my head though.

1. The supposed difference- flat contact surfaces and a removed grove.

Not sure how that’ll make things stronger. We need a more robust part, thicker materials.

2. The updated HVJB supposedly made it into production in May of 2022.

Then why a 3rd part number if it’s the same old HVJB? Kinda disappointing if the new part number is the same as the old one that’s still failing.

The Colorado Springs Rivian Service Center is about 1 mile from me so I stopped in to talk. The Rivian rep. said that part of Ford's initial Rivian investment included Rivian supplying parts to Ford for the F150 Lightning and Mach-e. I did not probe which parts.

Does anyone know if these HVBJB parts are supplied by Rivian or if they are genuine Ford parts?

I guess there are two ways to look at this. 1) If the next appointment is November 14th, you could book that and keep driving the car in the meantime. If the recall is released by the 14th, the dealer will be able to perform the recall at the same time, which might save you another trip if it turns out the parts they replace today will need to be replaced again after the recall is released.

The second way to look at it is the car needs to go in now and that would require calling as many dealers as possible seeing if they could get you in sooner than the 14th.

I realize both options suck, but I have a feeling this wait time is only going to get worse once the recall is released and there are thousands of owners looking to get in for a job that will take an EV tech at least 5 hours to complete.

From the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report:

" Damage to the Extended Range and GT contactors caused by heat and accumulated wear during customer usage prior to the software update may reduce the effectiveness of the software deployed with 22S41 "

As to your point #1, the flat surfaces and removed groove create a larger surface area for current flow.

Sounds good, but people are still breaking this design with 2022 and 2023 failures (although at a slower rate).

As far as I can tell, the HVBJB is built by TE connectivity in Mexico. I’m not sure that Rivian actually provided anything to Ford before their agreement ended.

EDIT: confirmed above as I was typing.

Wondering if this recall will affect the timeline of them releasing an OTA update for GTs power limit.

Fix the hardware then give us more power…..
