I like it enough to not pay thousands of dollars for a retrofit (if it existed).
Me too, but it would be nice if future models didn’t require any. As an aside, my TeslaTap is loosening up a bit but I still have a tough time removing it. I should have returned it when I had the chance but was lazy.

It sounds like TeslaTap has changed the design slightly so it’s not so tight. At least that’s what their website implies.

Tesla supports CCS protocol in the V3 and V4 chargers, that is how the cars work today on Magic Dock stations. There is nothing "special" that has to be done by Ford, other than supporting plug and charge. The V4 stations even have CC readers, so Fordpass is not going to be required.
I admit that I'm ignorant of how to identify V3 and V4 chargers. Magic Doc stations have the CCS connection, correct?

While the Tesla connector is simpler, it requires a completely different contactor arrangement inside the car to make it safe. CCS has more pins because the developers of that standard did not want to have any possible fialure mode that could short AC voltage to DC voltage, or vice versus. Tesla has decided they can rely on software to do that job, and of course we all know that software never has any bugs. LOL
Yes, but it seems to work and be way more reliable, am I wrong?

It is not the connector that is the reliability issue, it is the other networks charger hardware that is unreliable. EA could install Teslas connector on all there chargers and it will not improve reliability.

I certainly agree with that. But my point was using Tesla chargers, where those seem to be more reliable then the ccs chargers. The type of connection is irrelevant as you said. I’m just thinking out loud.

“We’re going to ship an adapter to everyone who’s bought a Ford EV,” Farley said. “This is not just for the future, it’s for all the people who already bought our vehicles. So they’ll get an adapter from Ford, they go on FordPass, they pick the payment option they want, all the billing is the same as it is today, so it’s going to be super easy.”

Which is why I suspect the only way you'll be able to use the SC network is via FordPass and ford is going to be making back a bit of the adapter cost, those adapters will be 100% passive so they have no electronics in them.
I don’t see the word FREE in there anywhere. Besides, I’ve been told by The head of Ford’s charging division and the head of the customer charging section that it will be sold through Ford Accessories. Couldn’t pin them down on cost but it sounded like they think it’ll be a couple of hundred dollars.

My understanding is that NACS uses the CCS communication protocol over a Tesla connector. When the adapters come out and Tesla does whatever it needs to do to get its chargers ready, the adapter will connect the communication and power plugs on the charger to the communication and DC ports on your car, payment will occur via plug and charge (or, I would assume, Tesla’s app), and the car and charger will communicate using CCS. If they don’t run into a bunch of bugs resulting from slight differences in CCS implementations (based on the issues cars have communicating with the current CCS networks, that’s a big if), it should be a pretty painless process.
Correct. This is why only v3 and newer Superchargers will be available to non-Teslas. V2 don’t use the protocol used by CCS chargers/vehicles.

Actually I spoke to them, they are in the process. They had an inspection done and some things need upgrading before then can install, but they are working on it. In the meantime, at the end of our gate, we have 4 new EVgo 100 kw stations that went operational 1 week before I bought my new MME. So I don’t have to go far. Still have to wait but at least it’s not far.
I think using EVgo you can reserve a station in advance I believe. Since you are not far. You really dont have to wait. You can reserve a station when available in the comfort of your condo. If they a a hole though and park in your slot still. That would not be good.

I just signed up for membership in EVgo. I’m still overseas until Thursday when I return, I hope I can do that…..

It sounds like an adapter will be shipped to me with no effort on my part. I guess if there's a charge, I will automatically be billed. However, it sounds more like a politician buying votes to me, so I learned a long time ago not to believe any political speeches.

I guarantee they aren't going to just send one to everyone and automatically bill them. What about all the people who aren't willing to pay for one? People need to get over what Farely said in the MSNBC interview. He misspoke....it's not uncommon.

My understanding is, People who buy a 2024 will get a free one with purchase. 2023 and earlier will have to buy. I think they are doing this because many people would just wait for the 2025 model with it built in. Up to 2023 models, we didn’t know the change was coming.

Where did you see that? It's certainly possible, but I haven't seen Ford say that. Ford also hasn't said that the 2025 MME will have native NACS. They said that they will start producing vehicles with it in 2025. That could just be the next gen platform. We don't know yet.
