I’m known to create click bait posts.
It’s a joke. Something an anti-EV person would say.
I thought you were just being super eco - unless you have your own solar then EV’s still pollute at the source of power generation.

No one is denying that, but the generation mix for electricity in the US isn't just coal. Even with fossil-powered generation, EVs are still cleaner in the long run, plus it also shifts pollution away from densely populated areas.

But I'm sure you know that.

I just hope a little cynicism does not contribute to climate change!

Not of your power provider get 100% of their power from renewables (which our does). Though I’ll grant you on road trips I get peer from other sources.

Retired. I'd say it was a mid life crisis, but not many people live to 140.

EV’s still pollute at the source of power generation.
If you search Wikipedia for power stations in your state, you can see how much of your state's power generation is based on carbon fuel.

Most of the States don't use much coal; however, natural gas is still a popular source of power. In the Old Dominion, only 3% of power is generated from coal.

But we're still about 55% natural gas. 30% is from the nuclear power stations.

4% solar, 4% biomass, 2% hydro. The hydro station in Wise Co is proving to be quite viable, and I think we will see more of that. Solar is burgeoning, but developing solar requires acreage that communities are not willing to give up.

West Virginia is the worst for modern power generation, where 89% of power continues to be generated with coal. They have experimented with hydro, and it is working out well but requires money to continue to build.

In California, less than 1% of its power generation is coal. But California has a totally different problem inasmuch as 30% of its power must be imported from other states.

The legacies of a federalist constitution allow states to set up the equivalent of crown monopolies, and the states decide for themselves how their grid is supplied and designed. States are also allowed to set up regional cooperatives between several states.

This might be something we have to think about for the future. What we call the "Commerce Clause" might have to be used to cause the federal government to integrate everything into a national, more secure and more ecologically friendly power grid.

Not to be pedantic (ok, to be pedantic ?) having your own solar doesn’t mean that your EV doesn’t pollute at the source of power generation. Where were all the components sourced from and how was the power at those sources generated? How were those components transported? ?

To be pedantic, ? please inform us on what source of power generation does not pollute?

It really isn't a question of "does it pollute" but rather the amount they pollute. While it is true that to make said panels will create pollution by the manufacturing process, the lifespan of the panels can go on for years (up to 25 in most cases) without a single "drop" of pollution. That is a nice trade off IMO.

To get into the weeds, pollution exists both naturally and manmade. If you throw noise pollution into the mix, one could argue that solar is almost pollution free in that regard whereas ICE is always polluting.

So people that say Solar Panels don't create pollution are wrong is like saying hard working people are lazy when they are sleeping. ? While one could be "pedantic" on their description of not always working hard, for the most part more people than not understand the true meaning of working hard and wouldn't split hairs on that part. ?
