If it's under warranty I'd expect it to be covered. What I'm seeing is Ford is kind of forcing us to be our own open source community. All running out and buying their stupidly over priced software, to run an update that takes 6 hours (when OTA it's like 10 min) and risk bricking the car doing so because of totally convoluted update processes. "Hey folks, did you see the new Ford? Got countless hours to spend doing other things with your life? We can fix that. I introduce the Mach-E"

I have a '21 Job-1 built Dec 2020.

Power-Up 6.7.0 installed two nights ago -- which enabled the frunk (it didn't show up in FordPass until today -- the car has to "report in" before the button shows up in the app and I didn't use the car yesterday).

Power-up 6.8.0 just installed tonight.

The BC 1.3 updates are happening now. There are MANY of them you'll need to get before BC 1.3 is live. But if you just got 6.2.1 then you are on your way.

You'll get 6.3, 6.4, (6.5 is skipped), 6.6, 6.7, 6.8 ... and I'm guessing 6.9 (but I don't think anyone has received that yet). The updates are being pushed out pretty quickly now.

ALSO... there are a number of other updates. There's an "unnamed" update (that seems to improve the monitoring of the 12v battery state-of-charge) and a DC Fast Charging update.

Thanks so much. Ford could do better by admitting that they don't know and using this forum - and maybe compensating people here who give accurate information.

To be fair they’re helpful with existing information.

When you call a random call center and ask them to predict the future (when will I get X?), they will know nothing. Nor should they. Ford does at least an “ok” job of letting us know what’s coming. There doesn’t appear to be too much insider info that’s told to ALL their employees before us.**

**Yes, certain people working on certain projects know more than us. But NONE of those people will ever be answering phones in a call center.
But they have said all BC capable cars are getting BC1.3, so this isn’t some insider information. He didn’t ask when, he asked if and that has already been announced. Instead, he was told he wouldn’t get it. Even a simple “I don’t know” would have been better than a wrong answer.

Seems like a lot of members on here get hyped up on these OTA updates especially when they think they are behind. I've even read on here were members invest over $1K on special hardware just to update their vehicle.....holy crap that seems crazy to me.

My advice is just roll with it and let the updates come when they want to. That's what I've done for the last year and no problems so far. Your MME will get BC 1.3 regardless of what a couple of incompetent CSRs say.

Just a caveat - it’s going SSLLOOWWLLYY. Don’t get your hopes up that you’re going to suddenly be getting daily, or even weekly PowerUps. I got 6.2.1 almost a month ago, then about a week ago, an unknown, unlabeled PowerUp. Otherwise, crickets ?

I've been happy to "roll with it." But I was trying to gather facts to help me decide whether to pay $600 for 3 years of so-so BlueCruise 1.1 or put it toward a much better third-party option (at least judging from the comma.ai suite my son installed in his 2017 Chevy Volt). The Ford subscription deal has a December 31 deadline.

Hey no worries bro I get it. Chances are good that if Ford can't get BC 1.3 to all eligible customers by the end of the year they will extend the trial date. It has already happened before. It's pretty funny reading some of the posts in this thread. Especially the expected roll out of BC 1.3.

Just remember Ford wants you to subscribe to this service so it makes no sense for them to cut you off before it's even available for you to try it.

Have you seen that in writing anywhere?? The trial period expires on 12/31/23. I can't find anything that says we have to pay by then or we are ineligible for the $600 for 3 years pricing.

Thank you - and by extension everyone at this forum who provides useful information (and some who just provide funny comments).

I have now called again and was told by "Mary" in connected services that I will get the upgrade without any new hardware. She couldn't tell me when, so she sent me to the OTA department, which she said would have a date. They did not have a date, but said to call connected services.

Emma in the connected services department said it should have been updated already. She told me to call the dealer.

Dealer says $230 to update.

Final call: Ryan, in In Vehicle Technology said the only way to confirm that my car can be upgraded is to take it to the dealer and plug it in.

P.S. If it weren't for the empty frunk button promises, I'd be more confident in what I've seen posted here about the promised updates.
Stop calling customer service, absolutely clueless. Be patient and wait for OTAs, my car in the EA program is very close to having BC 1.3, I have a Job 1 ‘21 as well.

6.2.1 also just installed on mine and I've been debating the the $600 / 3yr offer too because of the slow updates. Do you recall how long it took after your 6.2.1 update for the next one to install?

Thanks!

Have you seen the age poll? It’s self explanatory lol.
Now, what was I doing in this thread… can’t remember.

Even using the diy updates I don’t think you would have BC1.3 yet

Tbh I don’t want my vehicle to be the test vehicle for a large scale rollout. I’d much rather be in the second round push. I work in software, I know a lot of great product and engineering folks who love to push things and then they’re like “it’s ok if it isn’t perfect” not even thinking about the people who actually have to deal with the consequences of “not perfect”

I'm talking about if there's an update that fixes something, and it's not getting picked up OTA, and the car is under warranty, I'd expect NOT to have to pay for getting someone to shove the update in if it's under warranty.

BUT at the same time I kinda expect the software update to not be the cluster it is. It's 2023 and these processors are not cutting edge by any means.

The way I see my car is this:
It's Docker from 6 years ago, all containers written by different groups in different places for different things. No one testing a thing they deploy because no one ever pulls the main branch and runs tests. They push the container up and call the job done. Then the cluster of a car gets an update, when the stars align. Problem surfaces. Problem reported to that container team, maybe. They might get around to fixing it, because everything is an enhancment to them, like not resetting the occupant alarm every time.. Couple more months pass, someone pushes and it all starts again.

The smoke test passes but there's zero feature testing happening, or even any sort of a regression test. OR there's someone that makes the decision 'eh they'll never notice the speedo is only on the right now, because it's too late to fix that now.'

My 13 yrs old Focus EV shits the bed randomly about it's off hours charge time, but at least it defaults to charge now. The 'fix'? Unplug the 12v to reboot Sync. (I used tokeep a 13mm wrench in the door just to do this every 6 to 8 weeks) How things havn't changed. Btw this Sync3 got 3, maybe 4 updates in it's lifetime. Not a useful feature ever added. What'd they add? A calendar. Because my car should know more than my phone I guess.
