Update not successful. Car cannot be driven. Ford should really think about a mobile service.

I think it depends on where you are and what your dealer has... My area has mobile service. They've fixed recalls on my other car while sitting in my work parking lot.

Yikes, this is worse than the Rivian OTA that bricked the infotainment screen.

Got the car back today. Was easy for the dealer to fix as they just had to update manually. They technically fixed it the same day I towed it there (Friday) but opted to return the vehicle to me today (Monday) as they wanted to do a road test to make sure there were no issues. I am sorry if this happens to anyone in the future.

Ugh, the same thing just happened to me overnight. Dealer where I got the car (Morristown, NJ) said no appointments available until January 9th :(

That sucks. Maybe you can message @Ford Motor Company and provide your VIN and they will tell you to contact your dealer.

Update 6.8 failed for me and bricked the car. I can't believe I have to get a tow for a software issue that will take 2 hours to fix with a laptop. Oh well!

Not good. Glad they got it fixed.

Which update was causing this?

No, the Rivian issue bricked a small percentage of trucks too.

Once Ford knows they have a fix for something like this, dealer's may include it in the list of mobile services.
