I have a 23 premium AWD standard backpack. I love the car so I thought if it’s not crazy I’ll trade for an extended range. Holy crap my car only is worth $34K from two dealerships.

It's not just Ford. I traded in my 2023 bZ4X for my MME for $39,000, 5 months ago. The dealership is now listing it for less than that, so I doubt they would have given me more than $33,000 for it now. All cars lose a lot of value when driven off the lot, and right now, EVs lose more.

I’ve only had the car for 4 months haha

A chunk of the value drop is due to the tax credit. (The one you're already getting, but not the next buyer.)

And of course a huge chunk of 'value' is lost when a car is first driven off the lot. And selling to a dealer nets you less than selling privately.

Funny aside... I had a great uncle that owned a used car dealership in Cleveland. This was many decades ago. When asked how long they warranty their cars? "To The Curb!" ?

Let’s do it the other way around: how much did you pay and how much do you think your car is worth right now?

$53. I was thinking would be upper 40s low 50s. 5K miles
So 53 - 7.5 = 45.5 * 85% = 38.7 is what the dealer can probably get for it. 34 is not bad for a trade in. I’m using 85% cause once you drive a car off the lot you lose ~15% of it’s value.

Another way to look at it is that anyone shopping for your car would look at a MY and that car costs 48-7.5=41 brand new and better than the one you have (long range). Why would they pay more for a used Mach-E?

Clearly Ford's fault. The 15% it drops when you drive off the lot shouldn't apply?

On this forum people are going to try to justify it. But if you compare it to other similar vehicles that are in demand (we won't name them), then you'll see that the value of the MME is dog crap.

It's a demand issue. The MachE is one of the worst selling EVs on the market right now, especially used ones. Therefore, you just aren't going to get much for them. I sold my 2021 GTPE, which I purchased for 70k for a grand total of 32k, just 24 months later. Many online companies refuse to even buy the MachE because it's so hard to re-sell.

Of course the used car will be worthless if replacement of its battery costs more then the car itself

This.

I checked the CarFax history and various sites to see the history of the 21 Premium AWD SR I traded in for a RAV4 Prime back in late 2021. It bounced around dealerships/auctions and finally sold in Dec 2022 a year later for $8-10K less than my trade in price. My Toyota dealer complained they took a bath on it when I visited them in early 2023. Used EVs simply have low demand unless the price is insanely low. Folks want new with the tax credit and new car warranty (lemon law, etc).

Or they want <$25K to get the used EV credit. That's what my neighbor did for her Leaf, and my brother did for his Kona EV.

Which requires a 2 year old model...
