Gotcha, thanks. How about the name of the dealer? Just so I can tell my dealer someone to attempt to contact?
I don't know if they will really be able to help you? The dealership is Val Estrie Ford in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

Unfortunately, at this time, until Ford releases an official procedure, there isn't much dealers can do without a Ford engineer.

Thanks for this information. Your good news is my good news. I think you will get your car back sooner than later. Sid, could you do me a favor? When you pick up you car, could you ask the service guys how they verified that your car is fixed? Then could you post the response? A final checkout is an integral part of any "good" repair procedure.

My MME goes to the dealer on the 8th, too. I hope we both have a quick fix. If all we need is a software update, maybe I won't go home. Instead, I'll walk across the street to Tractor Supply to refresh my wardrobe.

I'll get back to you so we can compare notes.
Will do - will ask the service manager for details on the fix they implemented. Hopefully they will share the info

No, it is not affecting 100% of every owner. My OTAs are up to date and my L1 charge speed is totally normal. My guess is very few owners are impacted by this problem.

I even got out my stupid L1 Ford charger to prove it.

can you please try L1 at SoC higher that 85% please?

I don't understand why the target SoC matters in this case. Can you explain?

I figured that in my case it happens at a higher states of charge, in my case the car won’t charge up to 90% on L1 or low power L2. I shared a few screens where car was at 86% SoC ish and lost 5% overnight while charging.

Also on 11kW L2 charger the car struggles to get to 100%, that 95% to 100% takes enormously long.

In my experience, it's all about the the HVB temperature at the start of the charge session, regardless of SoC. If the battery is cold, L1 will quickly discharge the battery in the process of warming the battery. But at 11 kW L2 charging, this should only take a few minutes.

So I don't know.

Measurements of the HVB temperature throughout the process would be helpful.

I cannot disagree with that, since I have to wait till 12:00am for car to start charging (damn PG&E plan), in that case the battery is dead cold.

The SOC at the start of the recharge does not seem to have any influence on the problem.

No matter the power of the EVSE, L1 or L2, as soon as the car is plugged in, it takes 5.5kw to warm up the battery up to 35C. Once it reaches 35C, the heating stops consuming energy. It restarts when the battery drops to 32C.

Two things that can have the most influence on the charging behavior of your vehicle are: The power of your EVSE and the outside temperature.

The more powerful your EVSE is, the more the amount of energy it delivers can recharge the battery despite the loss for heating.

The lower the outside temperature is, the faster the battery cools down. And therefore the heating works more often. This slows down the charging speed. And can even drain the battery on L1 or Low L2.

I didn't move the car outside last night because I didn't think anyone was interested in my test. But since there appears to be interest, I'll move it out tonight. It is supposed to get down to 29F here over night so the battery should be plenty cold enough tomorrow morning for a test.

I want to keep it at around 50% SoC because the car is going to sit for a week and I want the SoC to be low. So I won't be trying to charge it to 90%. I will just see if the heater kicks in to warm the battery.

If your MME is affected by the problem, no need to leave it plugged in for a long time. The heater will start just a few seconds after plugging it in.

Not sure if the battery got cold enough, but this morning it charged on 120V without any issues.

The LVB is pretty low, however. Not happy about that...

@mkhuffman When my car had the problem, the temperature didn't have to be that low to see it.

At first glance it seems that your MME is not affected.

As stated by Matstar, it looks like you car escaped the software problem. Just as a review..... Did you ever have the HVB heating problem? Or did you have the heating problem and it somehow fixed itself?

Also, has your car had many non-OTA software updates? (like dealer installed). I suspect that you car's SOBDM is using a newer version of firmware which our "hot battery" cars do not have. This may be why you are unaffected and we are.

I have never had the HVB heating problem as far as I know.

My dealer has performed all the updates in FDRS twice. The last update was over a year ago. Since then I have just been relying on OTAs.

Since yours works and mine does not, there may be a compatibility problem between old SOBDM firmware and one of the recent OTAs. I suspect that my car is running the original SOBDM firmware.
