What EV owners have known, believed and/or suspected some of Tesla's vehicle's official EPA range have been inflated as they suddenly were deflated overnight. The Model Y Long Range trim was 330 miles and now is listed as 310 miles. The 2023 AWD Mach E California trim is listed as 312 miles. He is a link for the 70 mile per hour highway driving test done by a "third" party: 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium: InsideEVs 70 MPH Range Test Was this downgrade of range from the Federal DOJ October 2023 investigation into Tesla's range figures?

I don't follow Tesla closely enough, but I thought their new 4680 cell was being used in the MY and was not performing as well as the older cells?

Maybe that's what's being reflected - I'm just guessing here...

It's about time! Even after the adjustment, it's still clearly a statistically-significant over-estimate at least compared to what outlets such as TFL and Out of Spec have found. But, I applaud Tesla for, I guess, lying less.

There's new federal rules mandating a single method of testing for all the EVs. In the past, Tesla took advantage of optional tests that allowed them to claim a higher mileage than those manufacturers who only used the mandatory tests.

No. It’s because the EPA has a new rule that forces automakers to use an average rating across all drive modes. Previously, they were allowed to use the number from whichever drive mode was most efficient.
I'm not completely sure I believe this. It seems like the EPA drive cycles wouldn't be affected by "drive mode". I don't have the test descriptions at the ready, but don't they even carefully control the rate of acceleration / deceleration to a very low number? I can't understand how a drive mode would impact EPA tests, could you elaborate?

Sorry, I'm not disp
Sorry, I'm not disputing that the EPA says average the drive modes.

I'm disputing that Tesla allegedly has drive modes that result in + / - > 10% efficiency when running the standard 2- or 5- cycle EPA tests. That seems like an extreme efficiency change when the EPA tests are quite mild.

For example, do you really think a Mach E would get ANY range difference (much less some > 10% difference) between whisper, engage, and unbridled?

Tesla lies about range, they lie about manufacturing faults, they lie about FSD, they lie about FSD killing people, they lie about anything that’ll cost them money. Sick of the liars. They are straight up EvilCorp. #nevertesla

You know it would be nice if alongside or instead range, it was stated "x miles/kW at 70°F at xmph" . Even if that is also an approximation, it is a much narrower one. Multiply the result times the usable battery and you get a much better range figure.

Yah, yah I know, humans are too stupid and lazy now, needs to be spoon fed, blah, blah, blah🙄. Fine, make special labels just for me. Is that too much to ask 😁😜.

I found this article, which claims it's the Tesla auto-hold feature that causes the inefficiency, but I just don't buy that either

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Tesla...-range-in-light-of-new-EPA-test.789677.0.html

All Model 3 and Model Y units produced since the beginning of the year will now default to the Hold stopping mode as the only available option for regenerative braking.

According to Tesla, the Hold mode "maximizes range and reduces brake wear by continuing to provide regenerative braking at speeds lower than with the Creep and Roll settings."
It will be hard to convince me that using the occasional Regen at low single-digit speeds results in such extreme efficiency gains.

Going from 310 to 330 (20 mi diff) because of the occasional Regen opportunity in a parking lot?

tesla seems to have always been bad about stating range accurately.
