This is not another "OMG my value has dropped so much!" thread. Instead, I was pondering what will happen to the value of our current vehicles once the new NACS vehicles come out next year. Will anyone want to buy a used CCS vehicle knowing they will need to use an adapter everywhere? I've heard companies like EVGo and EA will be making NACS chargers available eventually, but it probably won't be a fast change over, so there will probably be CCS chargers still around for a couple years, but let's face it, NACS will eventually become the standard. I've heard even now some dealerships aren't even taking EVs in trade as they don't want them, they will probably want a CCS EV even less.

Another option I guess could be NACS conversion kits, i.e. swapping the CCS port on the current vehicles to NACS, thereby no longer requiring an adapter. I don't know enough about port to know if it could be swapped.

Anyway, I just thought I would post to see what others are thinking about the topic.

Adapter would be enough for me. I would only be concerned about being able to lock the adapter to prevent theft. Although it would be good to have the NAC plug on the rear of the car, like the second plug the Chinese version of the MME.

People still buy used Leafs. So yeah, there will be people who will buy used cars with CCS1, just as they buy used cars with CHADeMO.
Good point

Somewhat relevant - one of the members on our condo EV charging committee has charged his Tesla for years via an adapter and CCS chargers. He recommended we go with CCS in our condo and have done so (it got turned on three days ago - Yeah.)

I assume you mean J1772 and not CCS?

Until some distant future where all DCFC charging is NACS, adapters will be the way of the world. Yes that future time will come, but not likely in a couple more years. More like a decade would be my guess.

Will our cars continue to depreciate? Yes. Is this likely the reason for accelerated depreciation? Nope.

Does having the Tesla charging interface affect the value of the Brand T cars? They have adaptors to Use CCS-1 and J1772 too. No difference. ??

Oof, bad example.

Used Leafs go for $5k these days.

But I think that’s unrelated to the charge port.

See the “have you never DC charged” thread to see how many people don’t care about the port.
