Except, in a parking lot it thinks the car in the parking space turned and you now have a clear shot at the road.
Exactly

Been there done this,. Zippy decided to jump a few parking spots on it's own. But I saw the cruise engage. Mine was set to 45? Maybe 25 it's been a few months. I don't think it's the cruise button but rather being able to hit the button to turn it on, and click resume at the same time. There should be a delay, at least a 1/2 second.
A delay could be inadvisable when in heavy traffic. That delay could be just enough for a car to nose into “the gap”, throwing the car into another pause.

I'm talking about the delay from turning on the cruise (1st button) to being able to hit the resume button (second button). Which seems what is happening here. I know I didn't have my cruise on when it happened to me in a parking lot after going shopping. It's pretty easy to click both buttons at once.

You can also just tap the throttle to resume.
That may help to explain what I observed (post 12).
Maybe I:
Accidentally hit cruise activate button when stopped. Cruise set itself to 15 MPH, but not engaged.
It engaged when I hit the throttle - I can confirm that it did actually engage when I did this.

This thread reminds me of a situation a couple of weeks ago where I was backing out of a parking stall after having lunch. I put the car in drive and started to pull forward when the Mach E started to accelerate without me touching the pedal. I quickly hit the brake pedal and noticed the crossed out cruise control speed of 15 mph. I hit the cruise button on the steering wheel to turn it off.

I never engaged cruise control to begin with but because this was the first and only time it has happened I chalked it up to being something that I did wrong. Now I wonder if it is some kind of random bug.

I have had incidents early on from hitting the button by mistake. Now when leaving cruise I hit the big button to turn off Cruise every time not hit the pause button.

This happened to me yesterday.

The car was in the unbridled mode. I was driving it fully manually. When I got into the parking lot for a store, I found a spot and I was about to turn the steering wheel left and park.

Suddenly, likely due to my thick winter jacket sleeves combined with the wheel turning gesture, I think I mistakenly pressed the cruise control button.

The car literally went like a rocket as I was turning into the spot. Thankfully I was able to slam the brakes and no harm was done.

I then looked at the screen and saw 75 mph set speed icon on the screen top right corner. Now struck through and grayed out because I “cancelled” it by braking.

Question: I was under the impression that when we press the cruise control button, the set speed starts with the car’s current speed (meaning if I press the button when I’m going at 40 mph, it’ll set at 40 mph and then I can go more or less with the joy stick.). Why did the cruise control get set at 75 mph? I rarely use cruise control on this car so I don’t remember the last time I drove 75 mph with a cruise on. Did the car remember that?

Question: if I didn’t brake in time, would the car have braked (by design) detecting the “curb side pick up” sign on a pole that was at the center line divider of the parking lot? There was a car on the other side of the pole, and I literally missed two heart beats because it would have resulted very badly.

One thing is for sure, the cruise control did get engaged by me by mistake. But my confidence is a bit shaken now. The car SHOULD have said that the speed is too low for me to engage cruise control (I was at 4-5 mph when trying to park) instead of engaging it at 75 mph and launching itself!
What ever happened to cruise control not working under 35 MPH? That is what every other car I have owned did.

We sold our 2016 Acura RDX three years ago when we got our Mach-E but pretty sure its cruise control worked at 25 MPH.

This feature is supposed to allow auto drive in traffic. BC doesn’t work except on specific highways and this issue should use something similar to prevent activation in parking lots.

This has happened to me several times. It usually happens when I back out of my drive way and turn to go forward. I have to jump on the brakes. I never looked for the cruise control indicator because I was going less than 3 MPH.
I believe it just another gremlin.

This has happened to me several times. After reading all of these replies, I believe it only happens when you are parking. It has happened to me several times and in each case I have backed out of my driveway and turned left to go forward. I doubt it is cruise control, but a software glitch.

This happened to
Update: I was out this afternoon and decided to see what happens when I activate cruise control while stopped. It set the target speed to 15 MPH and began to accelerate. When moving but less than 15, it would turn on but not engage.
The situation you described about lunging forward happened to me too. My foot was off the gas as I was getting ready to park. I slammed on my brakes to stop from hitting the building. Ford EV saw my post about it and opened a ticket. I haven't received any update from them.

Same here as well ... I use 1 petal, and a few times now while trying to park... With my foot off the petal, the car would just randomly lunge forward...and I have to quickly hit the brake...

This have happen 3 or 5 times in my year of ownership...

And it's super scary since it always happens while trying to park surrounded by park cars.

Well, are you sure the cruise button didn’t get pressed by mistake? That button is at the worst possible position on the wheel. Literally where the edge of the thumb rests when driving / turning.
