Yes there is. You can turn the ambient sound mode on or off with each driving mode. In Whisper it is off by default. Check the sound settings on the big screen.
We’re talking about the pedestrian warning sound.

The sound they're complaining about is the pedestrian warning mandated by law. It cannot be turned off. The sound you're talking about is the artificial vehicle sound piped into the cabin, that can be turned off.

Thanks. Either that point was lost in the discussion or I just need more coffee. :)

So… 5k miles on my Premium and I’m noticing this same loud humming. It’s a very different sound than the spaceship hum when going in reverse. Or at least it’s the same sound minus the beeping tone. We’re sure there is a pedestrian sound in drive? My Tesla friends don’t seem to make such a sound. Just want to be sure. Thanks!!

I was next to a Tesla in a parking lot yesterday. Was going about 5 miles an hour. It damn sure wasn't making anywhere near the noise my GT makes.

I noticed it too on my Premium. I thought it was from our last software update. I notice it most when I have the radio off.

I’ve noticed this in D also. Akin to, well, angry bees following the car haha. I figured it’s another pedestrian safety thing.

Tesla didn’t implement a pedestrian warning sound until they absolutely had to, which was relatively recently. Most Teslas on the road today were sold before that change.

Agree. My 2017 Focus Electric had the speaker but wasn't enabled for N. A. market. My Jeep has two speakers just like the Mach-E but it can easily be disabled. Jeep just needs to pull a fuse....Mach-E needs a bit more effort. :)

I didn't notice the pedestrian warning until like two weeks in. Then it was hard to not notice.

I really wish (like Priuses and maybe others) the noise only played when you were actually moving.

I also think the sound it generates is pretty crap (again, compared to Priuses). Seems like something Ford had a summer intern design, and he/she was a programmer (not a sound designer) who took a day to make it in Audacity. How Ford decided "yes, THIS is the sound we want our Mach-Es (and Lightnings?) to make; This is a good advertisement for our EV division" is beyond me.
