Why all the pessimism? There’s no reason why Ford wouldn’t make a Mach-e refresh. It’s a successful vehicle. The issues we’re seeing have nothing to do with the car and everything to do with incoherent management and bad decision making. The vehicle has some issues but it’s a great first try. Let’s not throw the baby with the bath water.

currently car-less, but hope to get a MME!

Do they use other similar parts though?

The gv70 and electric gv70 look darn near identical-

Same with the g80
I was thinking of the EV6, EV9 and future EV3, EV4 vehicles which are deserving of Ford's attention. I don't consider the electrified GV70/G80 to be true EVs. :)

I don’t understand. Why aren’t they true EVs?

they aren’t true EV platforms. Your statement is correct on some models like you highlighted. Whereas the EV6, EV9, and EV5 are built on eGMP, so while the EV9 and Telluride are similar, they are completely different underpinnings.

You’re both right.

Interesting, but goes back to the question I had about cost savings going this route.
Haven’t driven a GV70 but it looks great in pictures and on paper.

The GV70 looks very nice but the pathetic range makes it an immediate no-go.

They need to copy Hyundai/Kia.
Hyundai/Kia look like they're still inexplicably having issues with L2 charging. They've also had some pretty significant recalls on their EVs (well, ICE too) in the recent past.

Maybe BMW then? BMW EVs seem to have the least number of problems.

The Mach E is not a $50k car. It's only that price because that's where BEVs are right now. Ford is losing money on the MME, so they're looking down market for volume. Without a solid platform, volume won't get them margins.

They might have success in Europe/Asia with a compact low range BEV. They could cover costs, but will have small margins. The US market is tilted to larger cars with more range. Their skunk-works project won't produce a winner in the US market. They need at minimum something in the class of the MME (size/range) in the $30-40k range. That will be a stretch with current battery costs and labor agreements as well as the Ford consumer (they might be able to go up market with Lincoln for margins, but that brand has lost all clout).

They do need a mass market car. Technology just isn't there yet to have one that's profitable (especially with higher interest rates and cost of living). Abandoning the midsize cross-over market would be a mistake. Although they can't afford to stay in it if they can't be profitable. They really need to engineer a way to be able to sell F150/Explorer sized BEVs with decent margins. That's the honey hole in the US market.

I think Mach-E will not be around for long.

they replaced the pretty elegant, smooth front turn signals on the Mustang Mach-E with simple blinkers.)
whoa - I must have missed that. They changed the blinkers??? Seriously??? Insignificant yes but still that extra little bit of “oooh” that helps make this more of a premium vehicle. Like the lighted pony projected too ?

I don't think the Mach-E has a sustainable platform, so a true refresh won't happen until they make a new battery platform.

The car was rushed out, and is, considering that, an amazing feat. But it has lots of drawbacks that you wouldn't have if they had more time. E.g., better thermal management (sorry to our Canadian neighbors), no 5 second limit, faster charging speed (e.g., larger bus bars, better contactors, higher voltage) etc. etc.
This.

But what makes me wonder is, given you knew all this at launch (Although I truly think the HVBJB issue(s) was a complete surprise to them.), would you not have started on the next gen immediately? Gen 1 buys some time, gets a car out there, but the new platform could have been ready now had they started in 2021.

Sounds like they did do this to a degree, but worked on a new "small" platform instead because at some point BYD et. al. are going to be in the mix.
