Thanks Ford! My NACS adapter apparently comes with complimentary 250kWh of fast charging + 22,000 points

I don’t think it’s spoiled to wonder why they didn’t make thousands of them before announcing you could get one. I have a sub-500 order number and the estimated ship date is April. I’ve not received the OTA that enables plug & charge.

It’s like being given a Christmas present, then when you open the box there’s a note that says, “Coming Soon”.

I wouldn’t mind so much, except they sent adapters to all their social media influencers. No one is being honest that there is a 1-3 month wait.
They are STILL testing them - the influencers got prototypes not production versions. Before they go to the expense of cranking out a hundred thousand of them they need to be sure that they work correctly and don't need a revision. That's just how stuff like this works: first they test internally, then open up to "friendly" beta testers outside the company, and finally crank up production for shipment to the general public. That's standard practice that has evolved over decades. If they rush them out to everybody and there's a design problem, then they get roasted for "rushing them out before they were ready" AND they have to eat the cost of manufacturing and shipping corrected ones to everyone.

Look, everybody bashes Ford because they don't communicate. In this case they announced a deal last May saying that the adapters would start reaching customers in Spring 2024. As always, we've been clamoring for an update to hear how that is going. So, Ford announced that the adapters are now in the testing phase, and opened up the order banks. Since they don't know if glitches will be found to delay things, they're projecting "April" as the estimated time of first deliveries.

In point of fact, it seems @ChasingCoral found an issue with EA plug-n-charge not working for him after the OTA which may just be a SNAFU on his particular car or there might be a bug in the software that will affect all. That's precisely why the rollout process is phased instead of sending them out en masse.

Ford has done a good thing here by giving one for free to every owner regardless of when they bought, and the incessant bashing of Ford for not doing it fast enough is just plain unwarranted. In fact, it may discourage Ford from doing similar things in the future because instead of goodwill they get bad PR.

I always charge at home and don't anticipate the need for a DC charger anytime soon, but that doesn't stop me from worrying about how soon the NACS adapter will arrive.

Must be some kind of primordial survival instinct?

@timbop makes some great points here. And kudos for spelling "en masse" correctly! Nobody does that these days.

Another piece of the puzzle is the fact that Tesla is in charge of manufacturing these doodads, and they likely don't want their whole network suddenly clogged with curious new doodad owners trying out a new toy all at once.

In college I worked in a mom 'n'pop pizza place. We typically estimated delivery time on the pessimistic side because, things happen, and so we could show up "early" with the pizza at delivery time. Maybe there's some of that going on.

Having said all of that, and despite bing extremely grateful FOMOCO is ultimately opening a whole new charging network to us, I still think it's hilarious that I ordered a car in the middle of a pandemic and took delivery 6 months almost to the day after ordering (pretty remarkable looking back on it), and the projected delivery date of a charging dongle I just ordered is 6 months.

Wait. It's March now isn't it. Sorry, 5 months. Dang! This thing will be arriving a month earlier than I thought! Cool!!

It’s reserving a Christmas present, not getting one.

From all appearances it looks like several thousand HAVE already been made and should start shipping soon.

And while the adapter is new, it appears to be closely related to the Magic Dock device that is already in use in hundreds of locations.

Not to pick on you specifically, but you do realize that Ford is completely dependent on Tesla to manufacture them, right? If Ford had their way, they'd ship all of them by April.

Uh, YEAH. Multiply $200 by the hundred thousand or so they have to give away to see how good of a deal it is.

The adage "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" is completely lost on some that are behaving like spoiled adolescents.
Seriously? Spoiled adolescents? Wow. We’ll try to be better people, Dad.??

Come on, man. This is a forum. Most of the stuff on here is people complaining. We have a right to challenge the great and benevolent Oz. Just because it’s free doesn’t make it a present we should all cherish and hold dear. It’s a patch for the sad state of the charging network that Oz depended on when they sold us the car. In reality, it’s more like an apology, but a really delayed one for a lot.

No one has commented on the whole point of this thread - did anyone else receive the complimentary 250kWh of fast charging just for reserving the adapter?
my adapter is expected in June and I did not receive any points or complementary kWh

We bought our MME in November 1923 and immediately registered with blue oval van and did get the 250 KWH complementary charging. Those points can come in handy for shop visits at the dealership!

You have received an wonderful gift from Ford, my friend!

you can buy an adapter somewhere else
after reading how the Tesla adapter will seamlessly integrate with FordPass (hopefully!), I’m really leery of dropping a couple hundred bucks on an untested aftermarket adapter that may or may not work with plug and charge

I don’t do that many road trips until the summer anyhow?
And most of my road trips are on the I 65/I 75/I 40 corridor, all of which have ample EA charge stations.

It will be nice to get the adapter,; and I will admit that the Ford Tesla charging pact was the decision point between getting a Hyundai ionic6 and the Ford MME

Waiting 6 months for the adapter is fine for me as I waited 14 months for my ordered MME to arrive.

Ordered April 2022 - delivered June 2023.

At least I got the lower '22 pricing plus the incentives & tax credit so not too shabby even with the new price drops without tax credit.

The snafu is that he tried charging at a Tesla station not authorized. No issue with adapter.

It might help if we knew how many Mach-Es and F-150 Lightnings have been sold in the USA. It would give us some idea of how big of an effort is involved making the adapters. Does anyone track these numbers?

My 2021 MME came with the 250kWh of complimentary fast charging via the BlueOval network when I first got the car, which I used up.

When I went to reserve the NACS adapter yesterday, it said I had to first register with the BlueOval network. I was surprised, as I was already registered.

I got a confirmation email today welcoming me to the BO network:

Take your first trip on us. As a new member of the BlueOval™ Charge Network, you get 250kWh of complimentary fast charging at Electrify America®. You’ve also earned 22,000 FordPass®Rewards Points** for maintenance, accessories, and more.

Even though I’m not set to get my adapter until June, I’m very hopeful that all who ordered their adapters before I did get them very soon. Given the speed, wide availability and the reliability of the Tesla network, this may quickly (I hope) decrease the demand at EA and other charging companies. So it’s a win for those who get their adapters early and for those of us who use EA, etc. I do worry that EA and the other companies will either have to adapt their chargers quickly or run the risk of going out of business? And what about all the other Tesla owners who want to charge a Tesla station and see all these other brands plugged into their chargers? It may soon become difficult to find a spot at a Tesla charging station.
