Has this happened to anyone else? I posted on FB and didn’t have much luck so trying here. Prefacing with I’m planning on bringing it to a dealer but it’s Friday so will probably have to wait and that I did try other charging stations.

I plugged into a ChargePoint Level 2 station at work just fine on Tuesday. Got a software update on Wednesday (not sure if it’s causing the issue) and now I’m trying to charge for the first time since at the same charging station(s) and when I plug in, I get the white light going around for about 20-30 seconds then it turns into a flashing red. The car states charging station fault. This happened at multiple stations and my coworker with a Tesla was able to charge just fine after me.

I’m able to plug in with my portable level 1 charger and have no issues.

That could mean the plug isn’t clicking in all the way. Unplug and try again, push in all the way, or try a different charger.

I agree with Mach-Lee... I've had this happen on occasion over the past 65+ thousand miles.

Sometimes the DC Fast charging handle appears undamaged but the little latch clip "tooth" on its top is broken off by past users. Then, the DC handle will slip into the car's charging port but will not lock into its full position. It looks O.K. but when it's not all the way in, there will be a communication fault which will result in the white spinning segments, and after a bit of time in a flashing red circle.

When that has happened I moved to the next charging station and also called it in to the charging network (EA and also ChargePoint in my experience). They are always appreciative as otherwise they will never know about the broken-off latch tooth.

Thank you both for your reply. Went out to the car and tried again. Checked the clips and made sure I put put a little umph and pushed in the plug while it tried to connect and it still happened at the three different ones that I tried. Everyone else seems to be happily charging at the stations that didn’t work for me earlier. I will try a DCFC station and see if it gives me the same error.

Does it work at home?

Again, thanks for the input. I just wanted to try and troubleshoot before taking it in for service.

I did stop by the dealership to make an appointment and explain the issue in person. They said usually they get people bringing their car in for an issue the other way around (Level 1 doesn’t work but Level 2 does). They see that there’s a communication issue with the battery module and I have an appointment for Tuesday.

Did you ask to charge on the dealers L2 while you were there just to give it a try?

Had this problem with my level 2 charger set at 48 amps. At my dealer’s suggest I lowers it to 32 amps and problem went away. Ford dealership said it was a bad heat sensor in the charge port, which they replaced and now all is well.

OP, do you have an update? Did replacing the charge port temp sensor work for you, too? Something else?

My car is doing the same thing (and, yes, it is car specific, not related to the EVSE). It tries to charge, faults, and then tries to charge again. After the third try it gives up, and gives the flashing red ring. This only happens at 40 Amps. At 32 Amps, it's fine.
