We have been enjoying trying the 2023s that seem to still be littering the dealer lots. One dealer has 23 of them, and I noticed they also have a 2021 on the used side. Please help me understand why or why not...The 2021 is a Premium AWD ER with 31K miles for $31K while it seems the sameish 2023 with no miles will run us about $43.5K out the door.

Looking at the Carfax on the 2021 it still needs the 23S56 HVBJB recall fix, and sounds like I should insist that be done before delivery?

I gather I'd have to buy my own Tesla adapter for the 2021.

Anything else? Is there a way to verify the health of the battery setup on a used MME?

Thanks much!

For what it's worth, if you're not planning a lot of fast charging the next couple months, I would expect used aftermarket Tesla adaptors (e.g. A2Z and Leviton units) to start showing up for sale here on the forum and elsewhere when people start getting their free charger from Ford.

I got my A2Z within a few weeks of ordering and so far it works great.

As long as nobody's used the VIN to claim the Tesla adapter, you should still be able to claim it.

As for the recall... you can certainly make that a delivery condition but you may be waiting a fair while for parts. Your call.

You’ll also be getting a couple of features newer Mustang Mach-Es don’t have (hands-free loftgate, parking assist, metal scuff plates, front camera wash) all come to mind.

I would insist on the HVBJB remove/replacement be done before you take delivery..... and ask for a deeper discount since you will not get any of the $7500 tax credit that the '21 original owner collected on.

given current MSRP for a new '23 just dropped, and the '21 has 31k miles.... I wouldn't offer any more than $25k

because you would be getting a 2 year newer car with a new car warranty and 31k less miles for 0nly 10k more. Which you'll get back when you sell it. Doesn't make sense to get the 2021 model. Plus if you lease it, you should be able to claim the 7.5k credit plus any state or local rebates that you may qualify for.

Other than it being used, I'd say, go for the 21

Correct. I would absolutely buy a low mileage 2021, but at a better price than what that dealer is offering. The 2023s aren’t better in any material way. 20-30k miles doesn’t materially make the 2021 worse - just a hell of a lot cheaper.

It's a bit of a weird times we are on wrt used EVs and in particular the Mach E. From the information I gathered, the MachE was introduced with a higher price bolstered by post Covid revenge spending. Then 2023 onwards reality sets in and prices are coming down.
Ford overproduced 2023 MMEs and are heavily discounting these cars to push out last year's model because we are in Q2 2024 after all.
Then there's the NACS equipped models will start showing up in 2025....

My personal take-away is that I think this downward pressure of 2023 MME is gonna effect on this vehicle's value (negatively) in the short to mid-term. For those who are keeping this car >7 years, then the resale value will not matter much. But there will also be another cliff after battery warranty runs out.

I'd buy a 2021 after plugging into the OBD2 and verifying the high voltage state of health isn't some concerningly low number. I'd also confirm they applied all the FDRS updates available so I'm not stuck on some old Powerup 2.1 version I can never escape. I don't think a Premium would be pulling a large enough power amount to worry about the HVBJB, but maybe I'm not informed enough. I'd also be curious if you get the 3 year BlueCruise trial the 2021 originally had.

I would buy the 2021……. But offer $5k less than what they’re asking.

I didn’t think the dealer can sell a vehicle with an open recall. It should have to be fixed without even asking.
A used vehicle can be sold with an open recall. It is to be disclosed by the dealer and signed off on by the customer though.

Also, Gorilla glass, for sound proofing
