$659 is pushing it on price vs needs. I want a very clear image that can read a license plate. Being a true 4k this unit is perfect and really has tons of added features for all my needs. Reviews are awesome. Agree on the new sensor.

Maybe @Mach-E VLOG installed their Viofo A229 and has info they can share? It's reported to use the Starvis 2 sensors.

I finally got around to installing it a few days ago. At first, the video looks bad but after a firmware update, it looks really, really good. I haven't edited the review video but I'll try to up load a clip here.

Here is a 1 minute clip from the front and the same time period from the rear camera. The rear window was pretty dirty because we had some rain, but the front view is excellent. I'm still collecting footage and will have to do some night time drives to test it out.

Focus on the left side looks a little blurry. Right side looks good. Look at the rivets on the box trucks for comparison.

Just out of curiosity, do you know how much power the Ford dash cam draws? I was looking in the videos the Viofo is around 5W.

I bought this Ford branded dashcam that drains no energy when the car is off. I don't know if it is available in US.

The U3000 thinkware has built-in radar. $379.99 at blackboxmycar, no sales tax. The radar does work, I have the 2 channel model and I get motion detection alerts all of the time. The upper part of the camera is behind the stippled part, the lens is below.

Avoid BlackVue. They will not stand behind their products. Had a rear cam go bad at 48 weeks. Took 6 weeks to sort out it was the cam with them having me dance through hoops communicating through their process.....updating firmware, playing with memory cards. "Your warranty request was submitted beyond 52 weeks."

It's a Ford website issue, I had the same message, but if you download the mounting instructions the Mach-E is included.

If you install the Ford Dashcam app on your phone, you can change the settings on the SYNC display via Applink, but no video is sent to the SYNC display.

So I take it mostly everybody that has these dash cams are hardwired to the car. That’s probably the only thing that’s stopped me from wanting to get one with the 12 V battery drain issue. Does the rear camera record even though you’re not looking at it as you’re driving?

Yep, front and rear cameras are constantly recording.

I have a dashcam battery pack plugged into my 12v so it charges while driving and then powers dashcam for a few hours while the car is off.
