I actually prefer my Ioniq5's design over my MME. The Ioniq 5 did win 2022 World Car Design of the Year :)

I would say it's more SUV than hatch. It's a very wide and boxy car. I was able to fit a dryer in the back when I couldn't with the MME.

Here’s my take: the Ionic 5 is a weird looking car. So is the EV6. The GT and N variety’s spank the GTPE on performance. But that’s it. Ford has a great car/cSUV in the MME, looks great, built great, but they totally neutered the vehicle on the top end. Don’t know when/if they will relax the throttling on the existing MME, but they are late to that game. Very few are going to have bought a GT or GTpe and are going to trade with an enormous cost to get the performance that Ford promised right out the gate.

** Spank the 2021-2023 GTPE in acceleration above 70 mph, that’s it.

We crush them in handling and braking and aren’t too far behind at lower speed acceleration.

We also win in terms of price.

Here are the EV6 GT test numbers-

“Performance” is about much more than just straight line acceleration. But yeah, credit where credit is due, it is dang quick.

The Ioniq-5 N is a completely different beast than the EV 6 GT and a level above. Having had a go in the EV6 GT while it doesn't have the power limitations the steering is unfortunately just as vague and disinterested as the GTPE :(, neither really has handling or braking performance to write home about.

I have not had the oportunity to have a go in an Ionq-5 N yet so will reserve judgement until I do, but if they put some effort into the steering to go along with the other performance upgrades then it will place if far above the GTPE.

If Ford are serious about having another go at making a performance EV for the gen 2 mach-e then they need to fix the steering before they do anything else and at least try to remember to make an EV that passes the 50 meter test.

Both are built on the same platform by the same manufacturer, so I would be surprised if the end results are much different, but we shall see.

As far as handling and braking go with the GTPE, while it may not be nimble, in terms of raw numbers it is one of the best handling and braking SUVs on the planet!

When it came out in 2021, the only SUV that beat it in terms of skidpad G and braking distance was the Lamborghini Urus!! I would say that’s “worth writing home about.” ?‍♂

Side note, what’s the “50 meter test?”

There's one thing I saw in the N not mentioned yet that I liked and wish we had: more info on the dash. I like seeing the motor temps and battery temp, even if it's not that actionable.

Yeah, and I also prefer the analog speed display in the Ioniq. I still much prefer the MME cosmetics. ?‍♂?

Agee, but I am talking about performance. After all Mustang GT should mean we expect it to have top performance. I am speaking about gen 2 now that the benchmark has been set.
Exactly! People are defensively talking about the styling and missing the point here. The Ioniq 5 came out after the Mach-E and now they do this. Better everything. The Germans, Koreans and Chinese are serious about EVs and continuous development. Ford is not.

Wow that’s overwhelming. Also looks kinda old. Reminds me of the 1984 Corvette dash:

So I finally watched a video on the Ioniq 5N and the only word I can use to describe the car is cheezy. Fake tach? Fake shifting (their explanation for adding it is even more hilarious)? Fake revving? I don't get it.

It's all too much combined with gussied up styling that looks like it was inspired by a 17yo 3rd owner of a BMW 3 series.

That video was first Ioniq 5 N video I've watched. The car seems fun as hell. However it's not cheap so it had better be more than just fun (which, in fairness, based on Jason's assessment, it is).

It costs as much as a Corvette but looks like it should cost as much as a Honda Civic.

Yes, it’s fast.

But electric cars should be “cheap performance,” because it’s fairly cheap to make them fast.

Just because a Model S Plaid is faster than a Ferrari doesn’t mean it should cost as much as one (and luckily it doesn’t).

This is the car it’s competing with. And it costs $45k-
