Très vrai - fait également une différence où que vous soyez en France. Je suis sûr que Ford Europe a tout réglé :)

Thanks for all the info. A lot to consider here for anyone going outside their home charge radius.
Does anyone in the UK currently own an EV? Looking at the ZapMap 150kW chargers are few and far between, with 50kW dominating most. Although, it seems that many of these shiny new charges either don’t work or are always full. Reading the article ‘why it took 9 hours to go 130 miles’ sounds depressing and shines a light on how far behind the UK is for this type of infrastructure especially when looking at the EV initiatives they’ve put forward. Would be keen to hear from anyone who is living this first hand today.

I've got a mache on order and have already started to research my future long distance journeys. 150k chargers are ruled out, I couldn't find any and don't care as I think they will not be good for the battery.

50k are hard to find but just about work in my journey plans as long as they are working on the day which means to me I have to plan to go somewhere where it isn't a single charger.

The lower chargers ie under 50k are very common and pointless unless you are staying for hours!

We've had 2 x 7.2kw chargers put in at the office. There will be 3 electric cars here in the coming year. I'll also use the government grant to put a similar one in at home.

I think my tactic will be to charge it every other day and if there's a journey required that will take over 300 miles, plan it accordingly with stops that have access to charging.

If I decided to have mud flaps fitted who they cause drag and reduce mileage?
Thoughts please

Probably a good idea only to charge to 100% when you are planning a long journey. You age the battery far less if you keep it between 20% and 80% in normal day to day use and then only to 100% when you need it.

I can see hundreds of 50Kw chargers around me... of course you do need to plan but the numbers are pretty high to my view. Maybe look across all providers? I think there are now more public chargers then there are petrol pumps but of course the dwell time is far longer. On my long journeys I'm just going to take it easy. No such thing as a "splash and dash" in an EV unless you are driving a Porsche and find a 350Kw Ionity.

7Kw at a hotel or workplace is fine. Pubs are installing 7Kw as they want you to stop for a long lunch.

My guess is Ford will relax the strict charging rates when they have more real world data on an over the air update. They will be measuring carefully what the LG Chem batteries are doing but a friend of mine who works in battery research says the OEM's are being massively cautious due to the warranty.

At 7k and if you leave your car at work all day on charge for 8 hours it will give you roughly a half tank of charge? Sounds like a good idea if so.

What about charging outdoors in this zero C weather? Is that good for the battery?

Well, it all depends on the tech. Batteries work best between 15 and 30 degrees so similar to humans. Most battery management systems (BMS) will warm the battery before charging. If you don’t tell it you want to charge it will charge at slow rates until it’s warmed up.

so it’s a good idea to schedule the charge with the App and some power will be used to pre warm the battery. If you’re on a long run the battery will be warm already but perhaps not optimal so some bms will use your satnav scheduled stop to warm it in time for your stop. This gives you better charge rates.

so in short it should not be an issue.

Oh well, that's the tour scuppered then. Teir 3 showrooms closed now as well. Those of you that haven't seen it yet will probably only get to see it when yours arrives at your dealer. As NONE of us have driven it, our 'test' drive will be when we take it home. I, for one, am good with that.

Portlandg well said. I am good with that. Better that and ensuring everybody's safety.
It gives us all something lovely to look forward to in the coming months.
In the meantime the US mach-e owners are beginning to get their deliveries and we will start to hear real life experiences from them.
Wishing you all good health.
