The member Mach1E has posted over 8,000 times since just March 5th - that's over 1,000 posts/week. I thought it was suspicious when they (and I think it's a they plural) kept defending Ford against this issue with straw man arguments. It turns out almost all Mach1E posts defend Ford against user complaints on this forum, or raise questions about competing EVs. Seems likely Mach1E isn't disclosing to the rest of us the true affiliation of their account. Is there a process for reporting this to the site admin?
got it... and your posts are mostly attacks on Ford so you work for Toyota?

And you do realize Mach1E has been on the forum since 2021...

That's funny. Despite a number of headaches from owning this vehicle since 2021, for which I've sought guidance from this helpful website, I've been an enthusiastic early adopter and advocate of the vehicle to others. However, this experience with the OTA software fault repair liability, and my concern over future similar occurrences, has changed that dynamic dramatically.

Another bug - Apple Maps destination doesn’t clear if you turn the vehicle off and don’t end the trip in Apple Maps. Then turn the car back on without a new trip.
I don't think that's a bug. That happens in Apple Maps even if you're not using Carplay. You either need to hit "End Trip" or let it complete it on its own.

The refrigerator didn't break because the manufacturer pushed a buggy OTA.
And yet neither is covered under warranty.

The only point of my analogies is to help people understand how the warranty coverage works.

I know none of them will convince people to like it. But it is what it is. Sometimes understanding helps people come to terms with reality. Even if it’s a reality we don’t like.

I would guess there is no recourse unfortunately. Even if we could prove fault (OTA broke the car). I would bet buried somewhere in the terms and agreements there is a line along the lines of “no liability for Ford if updates don’t work…… by keeping updates on you agree to…. Blah blah blah.”

If people don’t want to agree to those terms, they would be better off turning off auto updates when the warranty period expires.

Let me clarify - the IPS screen shows distance to finish trip even with Apple CarPlay disconnected if the trip is not ended before shutting off the car. That is a bug.

Small claims is a waste. It will cost $75 in fees and then if you win, more money to collect. Better would be to give negative feedback in complaint to State Consumer Affairs Dept and on Social Media.
Hmmm, not sure I agree, but I suppose it depends on the amounts involved. Also, it may depend on the jurisdiction, but at least in mine small claims costs are recoverable after winning the case. In terms of actually collecting after a win, anecdotally I have read that big companies typically pay up reasonably quickly after losing, rather than trying to continue to fight you or force you to collect.

I understand what the terms are. That doesn't mean they're necessarily legal, or that Ford put much thought into them. This is a very different car from what Ford is used to making, so I don't see the downside to making noise about highly anti-consumer actions by Ford. And yes, unless things improve I plan turn off OTAs next year when my warranty expires. But 99% of drivers aren't going to think to do that.

This doesn’t work because many updates bypass the user settings there. Especially priority updates.

Clearly warranty terms need to be updated/clarified with Ford and these new generation of cars that get frequent OTAs. I wonder how Tesla handles these sort of issues since they have frequent updates and I’m sure one or two have caused hardware issues.

Personally I think as long as the company deems your vehicle “supported” (i.e. they send you OTAs), they should be liable for when they break your car with said updates.

They probably are, but only to the extent that they’ll have to send another OTA to “fix” the broken one.

None of it equals a free trip to the local dealer service center.

Ok, I understand. That definitely is a bug.

Hey there. I would like to look into your Blue Cruise concerns on my end. To get thing started, can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you have been working with?
And this is why I tagged Ford on this lol

So..... did anything come out of that reply Ford left on this thread offering to help a few weeks ago? Or did they leave you high and dry with the bill for the work?

Great question. @Ford Motor Company DM'd me, took some details of my case, and said someone would reach out. Three weeks later, no one has. I've gone from being an enthusiastic advocate of this car (as a first time Ford driver) to looking forward washing my hands of this asap.
