Yea this isn’t great. Far less of a disaster than Tesla however

I think we can forget about any BlueCruise updates for the foreseeable future, until this is resolved:

Not sure this has any effect on future software releases. It's pretty well documented in the manual that Blue Cruise cannot detect stopped vehicles, it's now how the sensors work. You'll see that a lot of these cases are user error, sad, but it usually ends up being the case, someone was careless with the system.

It would be very hard for someone to be found at fault for colliding with a stopped vehicle in the middle of the highway at night time.

Quite the opposite, IMO. If NHTSA is evaluating the technology, I think Ford would be working hard to continue to improve it.

The system also has never been advertised as Full Self Driving or Autonomous, it's literally just hands-free and has the failsafes built in, so I do not know how this could be blamed on BlueCruise

It’s a bit crazy that a drivers assistance system requires constant driver monitoring but a driver with zero electronic assistance needs no monitoring.

What I mean to ask is that if a driver plowed their car into a stopped CR-V in the middle of the freeway at night and they had zero ADAS, would this even be a story?

Whether the investigation should delay release, and whether it will, are two different questions.

We all know that the two accidents involved could have just as easily occurred using standard cruise control, in fact more easily because at least BC is monitoring eyes on the road. Hopefully the investigation doesn't result in Ford imposing additional nuisance warnings like Tesla did.

Really getting sick of waiting for 1.4, especially now that I'm a paying customer. And even more sick of the radio silence from @Ford Motor Company.

It's a bit sensational as far as a media piece goes, but it does deserve an investigation, which I'm certain will reveal that driver either was ignorant or too confident with the system for whatever reason.

This is an issue that Ford is likely well able to address technically, legally and politically. The Ford leadership team, for example, is unlikely to pointlessly antagonize regulators (or the press) via social media.

It would be interesting if the investigation showed the driver(s) had BlueCruise engaged but his/her foot on the pedal which overrides the emergency braking if I recall....
