In AZ, they used to exempt EVs form the property tax, but quit that in 2023. I registered my MME for 5 years for $75 and it remains exempt forever.

Bought a used R1T in 2023 and just renewed it in April, $926 for one year. The tax will reduce by about 15% each year. It is based on value, just like gas cars, no EV penalty.

Wow, I thought Wisconsin adding a $175 EV fee to the normal $85 registration was excessive. I didn't realize registration in other states was so much.

OH charges $200 extra for an EV. Doesn't matter the year or value

Just renewed my 22 premium er awd here in nevada. $803 total, no additional ev fee.
$33 flat registration fee based on class and weight. The 2 government services taxes are based on msrp and go down each year. My 2003 Honda is around 80 bucks I think.

$858 here in NoCal for a '22 Premium, and $83 of that is for vanity plate.

Much of the $1300 fee for registration is Ownership Tax yes, but you can't renew your registration without paying that tax annually for 5-6 years after buying a car. It's about $1000 for tax and $300 of other fees including Bridge fee, road fee, and registration fees totalling about $300.
but aside from the EV usage fee, I assume those charges you cite are the same as ICE vehicles?

$710 here in Iowa, screw me for trying to save money on gas and maintenance I guess
again, how much of that is for the fact it's an EV and how much is what any vehicle would be charged.

Colorado has a $50 EV fee, that I guess gets lumped into the "Reg Fees" line item. Latest renewal was ~$900 on my 2022 Premium, with tax ~$400 less from first initial registration.

I don't think it is any different for EV or ice. Latest renewal was ~$900, with tax reducing $400 from first registration.

that ownership tax is a rip off, it's like ad valorem tax we used to have in GA, you'd pay hundreds every year regardless of how long and old the caris.

It is a scam. We already pay 9% sales tax at purchase. Then CO reams you for owner tax for the next 4 years with decreasing rates per year:
  • Year 0 (purchase): 2.0% MSRP
  • Year 1: 1.6% MSRP
  • Year 2: 1.2% MSRP
  • Year 3: 0.8% MSRP
  • Year 4: 0.4% MSRP
  • TOTAL: 6.2% MSRP over 4 years
Years 5 and beyond there is no tax. Registration fee goes down to ~$100 for EV or $50 for ICE cars.

Same here in Florida

$46.10 annual renewal for me in Florida.
There is $200 fee in the pipeline in Florida for 2024. I already pay taxes on my electric bill for charging my car and truck. Getting ready for more taxes soon.

Also in Florida, the $6,000 a year for homeowners insurance and another $5700 for property taxes hurts.

Wow Massachusetts is kind of a deal compared to others. There is no EV penalty / surcharge.
The key word would be "Yet". Sooner or later they will add it.

Texas recently started charging an EV registration fee. $400 for first year, $200 for yearly renewal after.

I imagine most other states will start to add a similar EV registration fee as more EV's are hitting the roads in those states. They need to recoup the "Gas Tax" some how to pay for road maintenance.

$595 in Indiana for a 22 premium. Of course that come with the benefit of miserable roads.
