Just renewed mine in CA, 2021 Premium AWD ER, $679 this year.
Which is higher than my 2020 BMW X7 which had a MSRP nearly double of the MME when new.

$218 in Utah not including the road usage fee of 1.06 cents per mile to a maximum of $138. We‘ll only pay about $80.00 of that with our normal 7000 miles annually. No specialty or personalized plate. Age based fee not value based in Utah.

Thanks. Doesn't CA do something similar for property taxes on houses (being based on the original purchase price)?
Yes, California’s property tax is based on the purchase price of the property, or rather, the fair market of the property as determined by the assessor’s office. I.e you can’t sell a $2M property to your friend for $1M to help them avoid $10K in property taxes. But usually the fair market value is the purchase price. Property taxes do go up/down each year based on the fair market value, but increases are capped at a certain percentage for the owner. For instance if you bought the house for $333K, and 20 years later it is worth $1M your property taxes haven’t tripled from $3300 to $10K. Instead it would be more like $5K.

Wow!

I knew it was coming but it’s shocking when you see it…

What are you getting hit with?
Everything I can find about DMV EV fees in CA says the EV fee is "up to $175" the other fees you've gotten are based on vehicle value whether gas or electric. The excess sounds like the "ad valorem tax" they used to charge in GA (which was a rip off). The EV reg fee in GA is $214.

https://www.smartcitiesdive.com/new... eliminate,electric vehicles starting at $200.

That's a registration fee and not a personal property tax?

$290 here in WI for renewal
this is what they're not saying. I've looked up online and most of the states have an ev fee of around $200 or less for non commercial vehicles. For the most part the people posting are rolling in fees and taxes that are charged to all non commercial road vehicles which is massively distorting the information.

Another I learned on line related to CA, they pay a gas excise tax of 58 cents per gallon, making the state EV fee of $175 or less an absolute bargain. Contrast that with GA, we pay around 30 cents a gallon gas tax and our EV fee is $210.

Much of the $1300 fee for registration is Ownership Tax yes, but you can't renew your registration without paying that tax annually for 5-6 years after buying a car. It's about $1000 for tax and $300 of other fees including Bridge fee, road fee, and registration fees totalling about $300.

$350 ( 30 to register the rest is EV surcharges and vehicle weight fee) though there are areas of western Washington that are much higher. This is due to additional local taxes to pay for transit that car drivers don’t use. Go figure.

Wow Massachusetts is kind of a deal compared to others. There is no EV penalty / surcharge.

$60 for 2-years registration, plus an annual inspection for $35.

And then you pay your town 2.5% tax on purchase price the first year, and that goes down each year to eventually be .25% by the 5th and following years.
My 2021 MachE was $350 tax this year, so something like $415 total cost to register in 2024.
