How healthy is your 12v AGM battery ? [update to recommend replacing at 36mo]

I don't think visiting https://www.ford.com/myaccount/account-dashboard causes any communication with the vehicle whatsoever.

when you ask for an update on vehicle it sure does. has to query vehicle for location, various status like door locks, and battery SOC

I think macchiaz-o may be right on this one.

I have never been able to get the website to query my vehicle. It always seems to report only the latest information that the car has previously reported. No fresh query.

That is correct. A refresh must be initiated with the FordPass app or the API before the website data will be updated.

if you lock/unlock your doors, that seems to wake up the MME, then
go to vehicle tab, then
swipe down over the 'location', and it will query/update location and SOC of the HV battery

I use a really old version of FordPass, and never did see 12v SOC anywhere but via ODB2 w/ CarScanner, or by leaving the hood up and measuring directly w multimeter

oh, I didn't notice he was using the website.... yes I was only talking about FordPass and PAAK on the phone waking up the vehicle.

I just had mine replaced last month, at 56,000 miles and 38 months of ownership.

No warning either, just turned off my car one evening, and would not start the next morning.

I've had a lot of ICE vehicles do the same thing over the last 65 years. Mostly in the early seventies.

I use BT for things other than car. So yes turning off BT is to much for me.

Unfortunately, there is no absolute way to determine the state of health of your 12v battery.

battery health, is not the same as battery charge.
charge can be a drain, and or charging system, issue

yes, a cheap battery tester 'sorta works', but I dunno how accurate they are. I got one, tested my 3-yr old battery, and it says "SoH= 100%, great condition". I'd like to believe that, but I dunno...

I think they just go by resistance on a curve at specific voltage measured. The internal resistance DOES change with state of charge (resting voltage).

3 years of multiple styles and chemistries ... I'm a firm believer. its saved money by determining health and recovering weak batteries vs buy new.

if one doesnt trust the amazon models, take it to a shop to have them use their analyzer.

Update. I cancelled the above order and instead purchased a CTEK 5 amp charger. It is compatible with AGM and lead acid batteries and has a reconditioning setting which I have found useful

I also replaced my original battery last month at 56,000 miles, but with 48 months of ownership and the battery tested that it was still “good”. I didn’t want to take any chances on being stuck after hearing all of the horror stories. I plan on replacing my new battery at 36 months.
