Just wondering if there is anyone in the Detroit area that can comment on local coverage of the Mach-E? Just wondering how this EV is being received in Motorcity, especially since it's made in Mexico? I'm hoping they're better received than Teslas.
Living in Wisconsin (after moving from NY), I've been frustrated by how little demand there is here for EV/PHEV vehicles. I was actually surprised when I spoke to my dealer and they said that the Ford dealers in the area have 5-10 reservations for the Mach-E, hopefully they translate to sales!

Not sure as I've seen very little in the local press (The Free Press, or The Detroit News) mentioning it. There were some stories about it at launch but nothing much since.

From my point of view around here: Its just another car....

Having a home in Vilas county which borders the UP of Michigan, a lack of fast charging -level 3- spots in places such as Green Bay and Wausau will challenge the range of our vehicles when traveling in most directions. There is a slow fast charger outside Steven's Point in Cluster and a Harley Davidison dealerdhip in Appleton but that is it until one arrives in Mafison or the Milwaukee area.

Lots of cars engineered here are built elsewhere (Canada or Mexico). While we certainly would *prefer* they be built here, it's not uncommon.

We do occasionally see the Mach-E mules driving on the roads.

I don’t know about “coverage”, but it seems like I end up talking about it with some random person (or group of people) way more often than you would think. I’m sure that will die down as they become more common, but for now it seems like an attention getter.
So far, topics have included:
1. Is that the electric mustang?
2. How is it on gas?
3. It’s too bad it’s built in Mexico, because I only buy American. (I get this one often at work)
4. Is it fast?
5. How do you like it so far?

It’s been fun to actually be sociable after a year of “stay away and don’t talk to me”.

Still get mostly positive comments from folks in parking lots, etc.
Yesterday, at the bank, the guy behind me identified himself as someone who works at ”Fords” (that’s how we say it in Detroit - not FMC). He said they brought a few to his assembly plant for employees to see/play with. He seemed proud of the car, which was cool.

With so many Toyotas and Hondas on the road here, the days of "you drive a foreign car" are in the distance past. I know; I got that treatment in the late 1990's when I returned from the Army in my Honda Civic. Worse, I had the gall to park it at the Oldsmobile plant in Lansing, Michigan, where I worked for a supplier in my first post-military job.

I felt like an outsider last year when I drove our Expedition to California (among other places, of course). It was actually rare to see any domestic brand.

Lol I cant believe this is still a thing. Dont ppl realize that even if it was made in the U.S. the components come from elsewhere? At a certain point ppl have to look further than whats in front of their noses. Its a big planet. Even if it was made in the U.S. there are a lot of ppl from foreign countries working in these facilities. Driving up the cost of manufacturing, and in turn driving up the purchase price or limiting the features in the car, was not an option for Ford. Almost nothing is entirely made local anyways so why the distaste all the time. The ppl who bitch about local manufacturing are the same ppl who wouldnt want to work at any of these factories at the wages that workers get in other countries. Its 2021 time to evolve. I dont like things made in China but guess what, I cant bitch about it because I cant afford to always pay premium dollar for local, and thats if local exists which is rare.

As an owner in the area, I’m often swarmed the moment I get out of my car in any parking lot. Pictures being taken constantly, questions being asked. Probably because it’s such a bold color. I feel like I’m driving a Ferrari.

I haven't gotten any reaction out here in the western bit of the county, but I'm now up to six spottings and four handwaves. Maybe rapid red is just boring! I know for a fact there's another one in my neighborhood, but I haven't seen it yet as she keeps it in the garage.

I did get followed into a Walmart across the river from Louisville a couple of weeks ago, specifically so they could check out my car. The husband was a KTP employee, though, so I'm not sure if this counts or not.

There are probably just too many Ford people in Canton/Plymouth/Northville. At a test charge at the Novi Walmart, a lady and guy walked right past me as they were discussing confidential F150 BEV information right out in the open. No, I wasn't wearing my badge. Maybe I'm too sensitive due to my time in the miltary.

Yup!

Hey I've probably been one of the people to see you and/or maybe wave--I've seen at least 3 or 4 Red ones.

Shortly after I picked mine up this happened:
Ford Mustang Mach-E How is the Mach-E received in Detroit? 1617542243165

It was in front of the Outback Steakhouse on Ford road (mine is the one in back). The front one had a Gorno Ford license plate holder.

nah, you're not too sensitive... it's just easy for the average corporate person to forget that they are talking about privileged information when just chatting like at lunch or whatever. depends on the corporate culture.

I was at the Mini Cooper dealership yesterday in Southfield (they were quite busy), and quite a few people asked to take pictures and see the car.

OT a bit, I thought this was hilarious - must be an auto plant thing.

My wife is from Lockport, NY, where there is a big Delphi plant that builds radiators & stuff. It used to be called Harrison Radiator when it was a division of GM. Her Dad worked there, it is a large local employer, used to be even larger. Anyway, everyone in Lockport seems to call it "Harrisons". Not Harrison, Harrisons. I have always found this amusing.
