Like a lot of you it’s been a while since my 23 received an ota update. I was certain it was having an issue that only a dealer could resolve but lo and behold yesterday I got this update successfully and now I at least know the ota functionality is working. Hoping to see more updates from here on out.

Just chiming in here 2023 job 1. No updates since the Tesla one in March and I’ve received 24.2.4.9 and 24.2.49.1 within the last 24 hours.

Same here! I got the former yesterday and just got the latter a short time ago. I guess '23s are back in the rotation!

When we brought our brand new 23 home yesterday, I was expecting it to need lots of updates, but when I manually checked through the center screen, after putting it on the house WiFi, there were not any updates available.

Same situation here. Bought a brand new 23 premium 2 weeks ago. The software update screen always says there's nothing to update when manually checked. Going on a road trip next week, and the free NACS adapter order isn't arriving till at least October. I bought a Lectron NACS adapter for the time being, and I need to test it at a local supercharger station. I'm hoping my car has that Tesla update installed. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that we have no way of knowing what state our updates are at when it comes to new features we might depend on.

'23 AWD PE leased end of Mar and the last update I had was 5.1.1 about 6 weeks ago. Mostly all I've ever received were the 'This will make the OTA updates smoother...' updates. Got the ECG-24.2.9 update on Monday and suddenly today I also received the 23-PU1103-NAT-VCE update. Never had two updates that quickly, usually it's well over a month. So maybe this 24.2.9 one is the one that really, truly makes the OTA process smoother. Or not. :)

You don’t need the update to charge at Tesla. You just have to activate using the Ford app or Tesla app….the update was only for plug and charge capabilities.

Ford Updates are not like Windows, iPhone, Mac, or any other software update you have installed in the past. You may have a pending update, and you can click check for updates hundreds of times but updates show when Ford says they should show. I have always been connected to wifi and always seems to be up to date on the latest so you are off to a good start.

Ignorance would be bliss.... I regret having found this forum. I'm just a bit irate that my brand new 23 probably hasn't seen an update since it was manufactured. Case in point I test drove 2 x 2023 premiums before I purchased 2 weeks ago. First a grey one which my salesman had shown me many of the features on the display like the 'public charging' app. I ended up buying a rapid red premium and after a few days at home with it, I noticed the public charging app was missing. I know the public charging feature can be found in the FordPass app on my phone, but that's not the point. A few minutes of research on this site told me that the app was added in an Oct 2023 release. The sheer randomness of how some people get the updates, and how some people finally get them 6 months later just makes no sense to me. Does Tesla push updates this chaotically?

Ignorance is bliss I agree, but this forum is great, give it time.

In answer to your Tesla question yes, they push the updates to all on the same day, the mobile app will inform you that you have an update and you can update it from your phone. They have mastered car updates.

Now if they could just master putting power side mirror controls on the driver's door trim just like every other carmaker in existence. Seriously bro, whiskey tango foxtrot. I have to futz with the screen to adjust these WHILE DRIVING?

You have to look at the center screen to know how fast you are going also? Don't know about you guys but I like to have the speedometer line of sight.

Did I mention no Android Auto (me) or Apple CarPlay (wife)? Or at least it wasn't readily apparent on how to start it. I might be able to live with that IF they actually had our music app in the Tesla app ecosystem, but it isn't. We have a family subscription to YouTube Premium and that comes with YouTube Music Premium, which is what we use exclusively in the car. I realize I may be sounding like a millenial or GenZ'er, these are definitely first would problems, and you can stream music from your phone on Bluetooth in a Tesla, but why deal with it if you don't have to. And obtw both wife and I are GenXers.

The bigger problem from a quality standpoing was the rattles from the cargo area on a brand new car. I realize some of those panels are movable, but, a brand new car should not be rattling when going over a rough road.

I could have leased a Model Y for around $40 more a month all in, but there were so many turnoffs with the Model Y that I did not want to own it, despite it having a more spacious interior.

But anyway, the early Teslas were more like normal cars. I drove some of the early Model S's when my tech buddies got them back in the day.

It doesn't help that Musk can't help but run his mouth all the time. I'm not even talking about the political stuff, which I don't really care about. Dude has like 10 or 11 kids and spouts off that he is helping the world underpopulation problem? No, you're just a druggie flake who has no interest in keeping your junk in your pants.

Bottom line for me is Tesla sucks and I won't buy one. And furthermore I think Elon Musk has taken the company as far as it can go and it's time for him to step aside and let someone who is business focused run the company. He can go start some other company with his extra 2 or 3 days a week.

This is one of the many reasons I took the Model 3 and Model Y off of my list when I was considering a BEV. Then Ford announced the MME. Since my mom was a Mustang person, she ordered me to make the reservation and make it for a GT. ??

Note on OTA updates: Ford selects groups of VINs for distribution of the OTAs. They come to your car whenever they come. At that point your 12V battery needs to be at a State of Charge (SoC) of at least 80% to install. If the 12V SoC is less than 80% many updates will not install. Note that there is no single revision number for your car's software since there are a multitude of modules in the car, each with its own software. In order to check on which modules have pending updates for your VIN, go over to the FDRS thread and ask a volunteer to look up your car. ??

If you are one of the people who absolutely has to have every module updated as soon as the software is released, it's recommended that you get yourself an FDRS rig. This consists of a Windows 10 laptop, the FDRS software (free download), a Ford interface cable (most use the ~$550 Mongoose Plus since the other cables are crazy expensive), and a >50A 12V regulated power supply (not a charger). The licensing for the FDRS software is either a 2-day license or a yearly license. While I don't need to have the latest module updates on my car all the time, I listen in to the FDRS thread and purchase a weekend license whenever I see an update that I find interesting. Otherwise, I just let Ford queue OTAs. ?‍♂?

If you find that you are unacceptably behind in software revisions, you have three options: 1) Pay a dealer to update your car using FDRS. 2) Get an FDRS rig and update it yourself. 3) Locate someone near you who has an FDRS rig who would be willing to let you use it to update your car (note that some module updates <cough, cough IPMA> take several hours to perform and there will likely be more than one module that is behind - bring doughnuts, adult beverages, or whatever else is necessary to bribe your host for the use of their equipment and license). ??
