Farley Says It's Not a Mustang

It didn't stop me from buying one, but personally (my opinion) I think it was a horrible mistake linking this car to the Mustang. Slightly modify the hood and the taillights and you could have named it anything in order to bring out a new generation of EVs with a fresh name.

These days I think Mustangs hold a negative connotation out here in the 'burbs. Every Mustang I see is driven by an 18-20'something who has installed a swiss-cheese exhaust bellowing an absolutely obnoxious-loud noise. It seems used Mustangs are the easiest entry-level muscle car for younger folk to tinker with. Thankfully the numbers are less then they were in the 80's, but Mustangs appear to be the most common culprit.

I think it was more building on the strength of the Mustang brand to support migration to the electric SUV platform. I think by putting the "Mustang" nameplate on the Mach-E was a statement of really how good Ford's new EV architecture/platform is. It got the attention of the prospective buyer that if Ford is calling it a Mustang, then it must be a good car. To me, that was the marketing ploy, to generate interest in the new EV platform.

The Mach-E had to be a 4-door SUV because that is where the market is design wise, a highly functional family hauler. To me the MME is in between a 4-door hatchback sedan and a larger crossover SUV. I think despite the name controversy, the marketing plan worked.

The Mustang has been so many things over its 50+ year history any well versed Ford afficionado should not take offense to calling the Mach-E a Mustang. The Mustang hasn't just been a small coupe with a powerful V8 in it for its entire lifespan.

People disagree with their bosses all the time. Sure sounds like this naming is an internal disagreement.

We are talking about a misinterpretation of what Jim Farley said. It was Farley himself who pushed for it not only to be inspired by Mustang but to be part of the Mustang brand.

When you get into your Mustang the next time, look down after opening the door. You will see MUSTANG and only the word Mustang.

If you are still confused, go to a Ford dealer and ask them to buy a Mustang (and do not say anything else to clarify). They will gladly sell you one that has 2 doors and runs on dead dinosaurs.

Your GT is called a Mustang Mach-E GT (prior to 2024 also with or without the performance package). Now we also have the Mustang Mach-E Rally.

Of course not. The Ford GT is a brand of its own. The Mustang Mach-E/GT/Rally is part of the Mustang brand.

It's a Mustang that has been modified by a partner firm.

And on the vehicles that you have listed below your Avatar, you have the word "Mustang" and not the full word "First Edition".
