I thought Mach-E are only capable of 2.4 ghz.

But my AT&T app says otherwise. My 2023 Mustang Mach-e GT is connected to 5 GHz. I even confirmed the Mac address and it matched.

Can anyone else confirm that their’s connect to 5 Ghz?

If your car is right next to your router it might support and use 5Ghz, but in my garage I'm sure 2.4Ghz is preferred because longer range.

Mine seems to prefer 2.4Ghz (or your router is just calling all Wifi 5Ghz)

If you have distinct 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks (not combined SSID name) and it connects on your 5Ghz only network then I'd say it definitely supports 5Ghz.

Did the experiment for you, and since I can see my neighbors oddly named 5GHZ only network SSID I'd say MachE is definitely 5Ghz capable.

My car Sync Screen has 2 Mac address and both are connected to my network (not simultaneously). One is on 5 Ghz and one is on 2.4 Ghz. And my router does show me items on 2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz and ethernet as wired.

And I park really close to the router.

Thanks for confirming. Also Mustang Mach-e GT is on Sync 4 or 4A? You have any idea ?

Actually on further research into Sync 4 vs 4A I believe we have 4A since we do have "adaptive dash cards" at the bottom of our touchscreen.

Depending on your latest Ford Powerup update, your Sync build number could vary.

I've got the latest (powerup 6.14) Sync update and mine is 23352_PRODUCT Revision 1122
I've also got BlueCruise map version MU5T-14H394-AAT

You can find all that under General Settings -> About SYNC

https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/sync/sync-4/is-there-a-difference-between-sync-4-and-sync-4a/

Also Ford confirms in this video:

I just wanna check with somebody here as far as Wi-Fi in 5G phone service. So when sitting in the car in the driveway I swear you could always see the Wi-Fi signal on the screen of the car. But lately, I haven’t seen it and when I go to look at it on the phone if I enable it, it tells me to disconnect from CarPlay. Even if I turn the car off and open the doors where it’s not communicating with the vehicle at all and I turn Wi-Fi on on my phone it says do you want to turn off CarPlay? So I’m guessing as long as the phone is in the car it’s not gonna show the Wi-Fi signal? I haven’t tried it yet. It’s so damn hot outside. I don’t wanna go do it now but I guess if I leave the phone in the house far enough away from the car the Wi-Fi should come up on the Big screen?

Collectively both Sync 4 and Sync 4A are referred to simply as “Sync 4.” The MME has Sync 4A. ??

- Your phone connects to your car via Bluetooth (short range connection) that enables Carplay (or USB if you don't support wireless Carplay).
- Your phone also has a cellular connection (5G) that has noting to do with your car.
- Finally your phone can also connect to Wifi independently

- Your car has a cellular (4G) connection to Ford that may have shown up as an icon in prior Sync versions, but no longer does.
- Your car also has a Wifi connection that it will use if available, otherwise it will use the 4G cellular connection

Below are all the icons I ever see and what they do. Note the up/down arrows just indicate your car is sending data, it doesn't really say how (although we can assume WiFi since it's connected).

This is off topic somewhat, but I noticed my phone disconnected from my home WIFi the second CarPlay connected. A few minutes of Internet sleuthing reveals that there is a custom WiFi network that joins your phone to an internal network. I don’t know enough about CarPlay architecture to comment further, but wireless CarPlay gets its own network…which I would prefer. Apple does not make this network visible in the WiFi settings when you are in CarPlay, but I am sure various WiFi tools could reveal the answer.

Wifi home connections for the MME is pretty useless. Unless you really care about getting logs/data to Ford as fast as possible. Updates etc don't download on the home wifi, regardless of what Ford says. It's never sent updates down, that's only coming down via AT&T cell towers.

OK, so I went out to the car first without my telephone and the first screen shows the Wi-Fi on the car screen, but since I didn’t connect to Apple Pay, the Wi-Fi stayed on the top of my phone as well. So when I enable Apple play in the car, the Wi-Fi still stayed at the top of the screen in the car, but the Wi-Fi disappears on your Phone. So if I wanted to use Wi-Fi on my phone, I had to disconnect from Apple play on the phone, but I did have the 5G at the top of my phone. But in the driveway, it does stay connected to Wi-Fi even with Apple Pay connected it appears it’s just not available on your phone Wi-Fi, that is .

This is the same way airdrop and airplay works as well. A point to point Wifi network just with the phone and endpoint (be it another phone or your car, home speaker etc). BT is used to issue the handshake/credentials for the wifi network.

The other thing I was thinking was should I check the Bluetooth connection in the car? Now with that said I saw Bluetooth is turned off in the car and when I went to turn it on it says, do you want to disconnect from Apple Pay so I’m assuming you don’t touch the Bluetooth connection in the car unless you don’t want to use Apple play and use sync only?

Right. BT is the fail over if CarPlay fails. Well it's supposed to fail over, usually it just doesn't connect to CarPlay and will leave you in BT. You'll see the phone listed on the bottom tiles, not CarPlay.
